If you could choose, what city would you like to see crushed by a giant monster?

I had buddies like this... regardless of which way the political winds blew we all loved one another and broke bread together... Sadly after this last election... things just haven't been the same. Sitting on pins and needles wondering who's gonna say what to set someone off... Sad.

The beauty of these guys and our relationship is that none of that mattered. We would get pretty harsh on one another or gang up, but still have a great time. Politics, religion, music, your Mom, none of that mattered as long as we got a cheap laugh and a good time. We all knew that no ill will was meant towards one another. I would expect it would be pretty much the same today. :D

I don't understand though why post #2 was not redacted as well. Explain the diff.

My guess, your post expressed support for one side of the political divide versus the other; whereas, post #2 just expresses a general dislike of Washington / politicians, but without expressing a bias to the left or right. Hence, "I hate politicians" is okay, but "I hate Trump or Hillary" is not. That's my guess and, in general, I've found I can touch on politics without being redacted if I stay away from advocacy for one side or leave it very vague. Again, all just my guess/opinion.

I'd reckon, in the general sense, politicians, lawyers, and in-laws are all fair game. [emoji16]

Noo Awlins. One giant stomp and the monster would be pulling its feet out of swampland, as we're pretty darn close to that already.

That's pretty much it. Although I wasn't the bartender who did the redacting, I can see the reasoning.

I think there are probably very few people left here who remember what the place was like in the 2005-2006 era just before the political ban was instituted. For its first several years, the Lounge was dominated by a particular political mindset which felt free to denigrate, mock, and ridicule those with whom it disagreed under the guise of "old buddies shootin' the breeze on the front porch." But when the place began to attract more members, and the political landscape suddenly diversified, the friendly breeze-shooting got openly hostile. Those of us who disagreed with the Established Mindset gave as well as we got, and it became very unpleasant in the Observation Bar, especially during the runup to the 2006 midterm election. That's when, and why, the political ban was established, and it was the only thing that kept the Lounge from turning into an ugly, vicious spitstorm. God only knows what kind of a monstrosity it would be today if free political discussion was permitted.

We have our fun with our veiled barbs now and then, but we all know where the line is, and the functioning of the Lounge depends on all of us remembering where it has to be drawn.

And as for cities due for a stompin', Reykjavik, Iceland. As a reptile, Godzilla was most likely ectothermic, so it would be interesting watching him go on a rampage in slow motion.

I wasn't a member then, but am familiar enough with our world to fully appreciate how bad it must have been and am grateful for the current state of FL and the rules that maintain it. I actually come here to get away from all the anger.

Yup, that pretty much nails how I see it. A little subtle snark now and then is okay - and one must be mature enough to be able to take it if you give it (God knows Lizzie and I have elbowed each other now and again) - but no more. There are 10,000 other places to fight politics, let's not destroy FL by turning it into one of them.

My only quibble is that my admittedly non-scientific review is that one side's bias gets redacted by the bartenders faster / more often than the other. I have called out one member's very bias comments on more than one occasion but only once was that member reprimanded - and his comment was left up then, as have all of his bias ones. But it's a small quibble as this site is fun and made up of really good, polite and interesting people.

Anyone who moved to New Orleans "for the climate" got swindled. You go to New Orleans for the food and the music. It'd be tough to lose those, even if your armpits are always sweaty.
Music can be had on CD or vinyl. As for the food, well, I have no problem losing the quaint custom of "sitting outdoors in heat that would stun a Cape buffalo, to pull apart greasy red-black insectoids for a flake of meat the size of my little fingernail."

Hey hey hey now..... let's not go overboard with this thing! N'Arlins is an international treasure.... A treasure that just happens to go underwater from time to time but a treasure nonetheless... Keep that monster away... AH NEEDS THAT MUSIC!!!!!

Jambalaya crawfish pie filet gumbo!
My only time in N'arlins was a weekend spent there on my way to an army posting in Key West. Fond memories all the way around.
I would also call for a reprieve from monster stomping for New Orleans.

Kind of like the Marine slogan...."Kill them all and let god sort it out!"

Well...you should tell us how you really feel without putting too fine a point on it.
