This is a question that can only be answered by George Lucas. Anything else is pure speculation.

Probably something military surplus from World War II that hadn't been made yet. Just like his MK VII gas mask bag. lol

In all seriousness, I too would be curious to know what the "rough and tumble" set was wearing for wristwatches in the 1930s.

Something with Incabloc or a copy of the system, such as Benrus' 'shock absorber'. See also: Novochoc, Parachoc, Kif, and Unisafe.

Probably a pocket watch since there'd be nothing on his wrist to get busted up on rocks or get caught on machinery or grab by one of his many opponents. And it would look smashing when he wore a vest with his suit or dinner jacket.

By the look of his house, he probably doesnt make a lot as a college professor (I know I don't). I think the pocket watch is correct but he would only wear it in the vest pocket of his tweed suit as he teaches. It would also be a hand-me down from his dad or one of the giants of history he met in the Indy Chronicles.

In the field, he would not wear a watch.
Either time would not matter or he could tell it by the sun.

Fun to speculate. As much as I didn't care for Indy 4, I still love the character.

I would bet on a Hamilton or Elgin railroad pocket watch with cover.

Then it would obviously be something computer generated that made funny faces and did double takes. It may still appear in the next DVD release of Raiders.
