Some absolutely boffo choices out there. For myself, gotta say that there are whole gaggle of geese out there that send me - Myrna Loy, Maureen O'Sullivan, Lauren Bacall, Amy May Wong, and Lee Morse.

But since the title says "If I had to pick ONE girl...", I'll man up and narrow it down to...Lee Morse.

A good looker, nice gams, a great singer, musician, and possessed of an incredible spirit - then incredible alcoholism, but that was pretty much everyone back then. My boss is off for the week so I figured I would look at the pretty pictures and then decided to throw in my two cents.

Marlyn Monroe, she's been a seminal favorite since I can remember, and maybe before. She kinda drives me nuts because most of the time I can pick out specific traits that I think make a woman beautiful but with Marlyn I've never been able to pick it out. It's just "something."

Rita Hayworth, she's a knockout plain and simple. Is it just me or is there something about her hair. It's the first thing I notice about her. Sure the rest of her is great but wow look at that hair.

Lauren Bacall, her eyes always look like they are looking into your soul. Like she knows everything you are thinking. That kinda makes you nervous but then you realize shes thinking the same thing you are. Then you are left with no choice but run off behind a tree and...well...you know. Also my wife looks a little bit like Bacall so well, I guess I'm lucky.

Did I miss it or has no one mentioned Betty Paige. Another seminal favorite. I know I know she's not the "girl next door" but well neither is Rita, if she is you're damn lucky.

Well back to work, wonder if anyone's posted new pics to the "Ladies Suits" topic.

It was never really the outer beauty with her(though she has it)... She just has that attitude... that presence. Strong willed, very much an alpha female.

Oh I can say bit as well regarding Diana Rigg, re: Emma Peel, I can think lovely english beauty, an outstanding actress, Shakespearean, but those reside within "Strong willed and presences" I have yet to find a woman quite like her, with "The Avergers" and those hot black leather jump suits, she gave women that "attitude" kick butt, not to be messed it, but also soft and cute as a pussy cat in the 60's, thats my girl Emma (Ummm Diana), no one compares to you. Now where was I? Oh yeah! Good show Matt carry on lad, now we return to "Golden Era"

Now back to the topic, this is a real tough one, all the women from 30's, 40's and 50's were so outstanding, I love Lauren Bacall, Rita Heyworth, (See Covergirl a great Rita film) Maureen O'Hara, and Audrey Hepburn, geez the list is endless, I wish I had the time to see them all, I also love Bettie Page, still sweet and alive. I must check out this "Myrna Loy" soon.

As for Betty Page she did retire from her former life, all of which was the work she did to help her break into Hollywood which of course never really happened.....she lives (if I remember right) in SoCal and only recently given a few interviews.....she was always religious and hated the work she did I think now in her later years she has realized that it wasn't all that bad.....there was a really good documentary a few years back about her that had her first interview in like 30+ years......

Betty also did very little stage burlesque she mostly did photos and blue movies most of which were so seedy that you wouldn't have admitted you seen one let alone owned one....

No she didn't hate her work, it was that time period, has nothing against nudity, she loved the outdoors, in those days there was some innocents and not all gross out porn as today, but she is religious but rather shy about her looks (being older) anyway a woman photographer named "Bunny" took advantage of her, took hundreds of photos, continues to this day making money off Bettie Page's name and image, Bettie has yet to see a dime from her. Bettie Page has her own website, but does not want publicity (the press hound her) she did show up at Playboys 50th Anniversary party, where she was special guest of honor, I think shes a sweet lady, much to be admired.

Also, I hope we mentioned, this is thread is almost to long to read, Elizabeth Taylor.
I'll watch any movie she's in. It's intresting to see her now she has had some hard times but is still standing. I often wonder what Monroe would be like in her later years and kinda figure it would be a little like Taylor.

Yes, I have always like Elizabeth Taylor, too.

Once, when some friends and I made a list of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, at the very top of the list was Taylor. She was beautiful as a child, I don't believe she went through any awkward age, and was beautiful all through her teens, and still looks good considering all she has gone through.

Great you enjoy Elizabeth Taylor, she isn't that high, just an opinion, I prefer more 40'ish, Glamour style beauty, this takes nothing away from Liz.
I do enjoy her films with Richard Burton, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" or "Cleopatra" wow those wild drunken fights, not pretty in the press.
Richard always had a great voice, "I am Marc Anthony!"

Now, Richard Burton, that voice, those eyes. I have seen nine Hamlets in my lifetime and, by far, my favorite was Burton.

Taylor made some good films with him and was even game enough to try Shakespeare, at which he excelled and she, well, she tried.....

I think Garbo may also have been the knockout of the century -- her beauty is flawless in so many films. And Ingrid, oh Ingrid, the camera was in love with her.
