Identify a novel of the death of Meriwether Lewis?

In the late 1990s?? I read a novel about the murder of Meriwether Lewis. I found it in Mount Vernon, Washington's, public library. I had believed the title to be approximately The Murder of Meriwether Lewis. The author was male. I cannot locate the identity of the novel that I may read it again.

I can find many non-fiction books on the subject but few, if any novels.

Help.
