I washed my Vanson

I took a chance on an auction for an older (Talon zip) Vanson Model B, that was described as over conditioned/waxed from the seller.

When I got it, I knew it had been heavily waxed. The jacket was cold enough when I opened it that some of the wax had collected and solidified on the outside.

I started in with a hair dryer and horsehair brush, and quickly realized I would never get the wax out this way.

So I threw it in the washing machine with a throw blanket, on delicate/cold setting, with about 1/4 the recommended amount of Woolite for a wash. (Jacket went in right side out, all zippers zipped up.)

When it came out, I threw the blanket and jacket in the dryer and ran two consecutive air dry cycles for 30 min/ each cycle.

I wasn't happy with the progress, so I pulled the blanket and ran the jacket alone for another 30 min air dry cycle.

Still not satisfied, I ran it for one delicate cycle (lowest heat, 20min).

Then I actually switched dryers to the smaller one in our mother in law's room, and ran it for one more delicate cycle in that one.

It came out of the dryer better than I expected--dryer, no loss of size/ shape, and i can already tell most if not all of the wax will be gone once it's fully dry.

So, "so far, so good", I'll post some pics then update as it dries.

Here are some pics from the auction listing (if this came from a member, thank you, it arrived exactly as described and packed perfectly)

Looking nice!

I know you didn't over-condition it but if "I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times - do Not Over-Condition your leather jacket."

It fully dried, zero issues. Does NOT need to be conditioned.

Didn't look any different from the pics above, other than the areas around the pocket zips fully drying and the color going back to normal.

One size bigger than I like, so I gave it to my dad this evening, he was pretty happy with it.
