It's by no means an ugly jacket.

I will say that it seems to have a few different elements from a few different jackets and I don't think they all work together. I think removing the epaulettes and pocket flaps would make it look better.

It does have a number of different elements in it, but it comes together with a sort of swashbuckling attitude. At first, I, too, thought the epaulets were a bit unnecessary, but they add to the 1700's military uniform vibe. I could see it worn with a ruffled shirt, a sword, and a three pointed hat.
