Just wanted to shout at everyone and say hello.

I was searching for hat forums the other day and this one didin't turn up... But somehow I stumbled on your forum yesterday while searching on Google for something else and have been reading through all the threads ever since.

I was really hoping to find an active hat forum like this one. I've been on the fringe of being a regular hat wearer for some time, and own a couple cheaper felt fedoras--one stingy brimmed that I wear snapped up and one wide brimmed. I also have a cheap straw stingy that I wear damned near every time I leave the house. So hanging out in a place like this, I'm hoping I can learn something about what a good hat looks like, so I might buy one or two. I'm particularly interested in scoring a vintage hat or two.

And since I really like these two cheap felts I have, but detest the sweat bands, I think I might replace them with leather bands. I've been doing some scouring of this forum and one other over the last few days and I think I've found the information I need to do it, that and replacing the grosgrain ribbon. So I've taken quite a shine to the hat thing recently. Oh, and I just bought some racks off eflay to hang them on. Space for nine on the wall.

And... I'm reading quite an interesting book I picked up at Borders the other day. Hatless JACK--The President, the Fedora, and the History of an American Style.

So I'll end it this way. I live in West Central Florida, married, 43, overweight, house husband, I play the drums.

Pleased to make your acquatance...

Thats what we need. Another Jake. Welcome to the Lounge :cheers1: . I recently (about a year) became an everyday hat wearer and was quite happy to find this forum also. You will find many things here including non-hat related topics. There seems to be a somewhat verifiable expert on just about any subject you bring up but when it comes to hats, there is not a better place to gather information and ask what you thought was a stupid question without feeling too stupid. Welcome. :)

Jakes Alive!

Welcome "Another Jake". I've lost count. Is it Three Jakes, Two Jakes? Any One-eyed Jakes?

Anyway, it's nice to meet you. I'm fairly new to the hat thing myself. Like you, I had some cheapies and came here to educate myself. I've learned quite a bit in a short period of time, and I've found a great place to hang out. (and some nice hats, too)

Welcome, to the Lounge, as I fellow Floridian, I feel obligated to ask wondering how did you fare in Wilma? Also, any hat shops you can recomend up by you? This one is on me. :cheers1:

I can't speak for another jake...

But with only Wilma rolling through it's been a lot easier than last year's 4 in a row! Hope all you other Fla loungers made it through the same :cheers1:

Sincerely,
Rob

No problems with the storm here. I'm up near St. Pete. As far as local shops, everytime I try to visit one, they are closed. I've bought all of my hats either on the road or on the net.
