I wore "A Work of Art" this morning and at breakfast (I'm a regular at this particular diner), one of our waitresses put her arm around me and just gushed about my hat. Old men don't get hit on that often....... ya know it was the hat, right? :)

Well congratulations, I would love to see the hat of compliment. Maybe an investment that would be worth while :whistling

Hmmm, now that I think about it the postmaster was a little friendlier than normal when I stopped by with my Tropic-aire on today.

My strange "hit on" experience ...

Yesterday afternoon I attended the funeral of a friend's wife. It was a cold, rainy day. I was wearing a gray Jaxon "Bogie" fedora and a dark gray wool overcoat. As we were beginning to walk away from the graveside this 30 or so year old looking woman came up to me, grabbed hold of my arm, and began to say how much she liked the look of my hat. She went on and on about how I looked like a "big, powerful, mobster figure". She walked with me all the way from the cemetery to the church. I've never seen this woman before, and have absolutely no idea who she was. Strange.

Man, now I really feel like a red-neck. Who would have thought that I'd get "hit on" at a funeral! Gee. Give me a break! [huh]

You have no idea who she was? You durn sure ought to know who she is now! If I had a girl like that grab hold of me, I'd do my best to make sure she never let go!

The trouble was, my wife was with me at the time.

I'm an archaeologist by trade and although it's NOTHING like the Indiana Jones movies (never been chased by Nazis, found a gold idol, or had to rescue a beautiful woman - not once!) we do wear hats in the field. By the way, I've never see an Indy hat worn by a real archaeologist - not one in 25 years. Anyway, my beat up Open Road gets the most favorable comments from the ladies.

I'd like to see "the work of art" hat.

Yeah, c'mon man, show us a picture of you in that hat. You can rest assured I won't be hittin' on ya'.

I've been grabbing hats and putting them on my head since I was a toddler. Always loved 'em and always will. But if ever I had a moment's doubt about whether this is acceptable behavior as an adult or not, it was dashed long ago when I started putting two-and-two together: A lot of women dig a guy in a fedora or a western hat. Standing out and showing a little style and confidence ups your stock in most girls' eyes.

I haven't been hit on yet, but as I am already married, it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway; my wife did tell me the other day that I looked nice, ( I was wearing a coat and tie and my hat) and she rarely says that.

This actually sounds like an idea you should "shop" to the Axe people (at least you can claim copyright now! It is posted on the internet, after all!). I can already imagine the commercial in my head and it makes wwwaaaayyyy more sense than their recent ones of the guy smashing his face into a wall to peel off the layers of dirt! Perhaps you could score the "hat contract" for the shoot, as it were.

Well, I don't know about "hit on", but I certainly do get HIT more often! Way too often. But, well, quite honestly, it would probably have to do more with my mouth than my hat. Just a theory.

You're not going to believe this, but ...

Yesterday was one of those days. I had to take my 84 year-old Dad to a doctor's appointment yesterday morning. While in the doctor's office I was paged to let me know that a Federal survey team had arrived and needed me to be present for the inspection. When I got to work, everything had gone crazy. It took me a while to get things back on track, but I did. We ended the day with my area coming out unscathed by the survey, but I'd missed lunch and it was two hours past quiting time when I finally left.

I was hungry. I wanted a big steak and a cold mug (or two, or three, or four ...) of beer. So I give my wife a call to ask her to meet me at our favorite bar, but she and my youngest daughter are gone to my in-law's house to visit for the evening and can't make it. I call my oldest daughter to see if she wants to join me for super, but she's busy with friends and can't make it. My son is at work. My other son is out of town. I really hate to eat out alone, but I decide to go any way (should have gone by McDonald's, but no I went to the bar).

I walk in wearing a three-piece suit and (of course) my Art Fawcett hat. I take a seat at a small table and hang my hat on the back of the chair next to me. Behind me are three young women (I'd call them "girls", but that may sound demeaning to some of our ladies here). All three of them were drinking Tequila shooters. Bad sign.

One of them says, "Hey, you're Mr. Brown, right?" "You remember me, I work at (names another restaurant in town)?"

Of course I remember her. She has really big - er, big eyes, yeah that's right. Any way, I say, "Sure, I remember you."

Then she says to the other young women with her, "I know him because he always wears that really cool, hat and he's also a good tipper." "Where's your wife and daughter", she ask (my wife and daughter almost always are with me when we go out).

Stupid me says, "They're out of town for the evening." I should have said they'll be here shortly, but I wasn't thinking.

"Well, why don't you come over and join us since you're alone", she says.

I avoid the question and begin a conversation with the other two young women. After talking to them for a while I discover that one of them graduated high school with my son.

It's a great ego booster to be "hit on" by three really cute young women (even if they are drunk), but the age difference thing was just too creepy for me.

Damn those Art Fawcett hats. They can potentially get a guy in real trouble if he isn't very, very careful. :eusa_doh:

Better to get "hit on" at a funeral than a family reunion :D

By the way to the OP, I'd love to see the hat also.
