That is a nice hat . You got it for that price because of the hatsize. If it were a 7 1/4 or bigger , it would have gone for 3 times that price.

I actually watched that one, not because I was interested: mainly, it wasn't my size. I could just tell over the past couple of days that the price was going to be huge, and that was one gorgeous hat. I don't suppose anyone here got it, did they? Do come forward if you did, and tell us about it when you get it.

Bolthead: I have one a shade lighter than the one you just picked up - you will LOVE it! And what a bargain! Tango Yankee is right...vintage whippets in this kind of shape in anything over 7 1/8 can go quite high. I really envy you guys who can wear a size 7...there are some incredible bargains out there if you're patient! Congratulations! :eusa_clap

Yup, here it is: Whippet

It was sold by rilico, one of the regular hat sellers on OFAS. He added a pretty good hook this time, a bonus of a reproduction '47 magazine Steton Whippet ad with Bing Crosby wearing one.

For what it's worth, J.T., on my two Whippets the brim binding and the ribbon are complementary, but don't match. In both cases, the ribbon itself is not black, either (blue and green, respectively).

Grand Hat

Ya got yourself a GRAND HAT there. I have only one but WHAT A HAT!

Specs.....

Crown is 4 3/4", Brim is 2 1/4" with a 3/8" trim and a 1 3/4" Grosgrain.

I like the ribbon & bow treatment.....

It came to me with a center crease and the brim was a bit bent....it needed a good steaming and I thought it was fitting to give it a Diamond Bash.
