How to make a Newsboy not so puffy

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum but was attracted to it as I have become a newspaper boy hat enthusiast over the years especially from watching movies like The Greatest Game Ever Played, Cinderella Man and O'Brother Where Art Thou.

Now to my question. I recently purchased a new B!wear newspaper boy cap and find it a bit too puffy for my liking. I find this as a general issue with other newspaper boys I've purchased but still haven't come up with a good idea to fix the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas or tips thank help?

Thanks in Advance

Welcome to the Lounge.

You've got the opposite problem that most members here have - everyone seems to want a fuller cap with a bigger brim.

I can't answer your question, but can't imagine you've got any choice but to but hats with less-full cuts.

If you mean that you want a floppier hat, rather than one that tends to "sit at attention" because the material has so much structure, I have two suggestions. First is use; wear the heck out of it, wash it/have it cleaned, get it wet, roll it up, etc.
Second, the floppiest brand new newsboys I have ever found are from hatpeople.com - for some reason, the just seem to have less structure. And they have a choice of cuts, too.

Of course, I might misunderstand hat you mean by "puffy." Pics may help.

+1 with NB on all counts. Nothing makes a hat look the way you want than wearing it, playing with it, etc.

Afa The Hat People, here's how mine looked pretty much straight out of the box. It looked all broken in right away. I had it made to my specs - color weave, liner, size, and shape. I love it.

Welcome, welcome!

With that out of the way: I have also had a problem with Newsboy caps that are TOO puffy. It can look a bit ridiculous.

As with the others, lots of use and a few prayers are your best bet.

For many newsboy caps it is actually the lining that causes the super-abundant structure which results in the puffy appearance. As with my last newsboy cap.

I have also had the problem of the sides of the cap standing up or being too "straight up" vertically, rather than "spilling" over the sides naturally. Pretty sure B!Wear caps usually avoid this latter condition.

It would help greatly if the OP would post a photo of this puffy lid. :)
