Agreed with Sloan, the fit and the size of the jacket is the key... And the color is important. The plain, blue ones are the least forgiving. But yeah, they have to fit really well otherwise they seriously give off that ratty vibe.

And being young was rubbish for me too.

NOT! Apparently I'm too old at 63 to wear the capital E Levi trucker jacket I keep in my wardrobe (or the same era Wrangler and Lee 101 versions I hide in the garage). I compromise by not wearing them when I'm out with her.

Yeah, it's a totally different look. A blue denim jacket really only suits some of us even if it fits well. I wear a black one sometimes with work pants. I got it 20 years ago and have worn it perhaps 100 times so you can see how confident I feel about the look.

As far as Ringo goes, he's 76, and lived a pretty full-on life. No matter what he wears, he's going to look knackered.

Certainly, McCartney cuts a more dignified figure nowadays, but even back in the 60s Ringo never seemed to be sartorially on the nail.

I actually think they might do the trick.
Denim jackets were traditionally cut trim with much of a v-shape to the torso. A fitted, dark wash Levi's jacket or Lee Stormrider can give off that rockin' James Dean look.

80s acid washed, unshaped, white trash denim trucker (often with rolled cuffs) are a totally different story.

I still have my unlined Levi jacket from my late teens. And it still may fit me. I'll have to try it on when I get home and see what my initial impressions are (the ones that really count. If I have to think too hard or long about it, it's usually a no-no).

If I will get another Denim-jacket in the future, I will look for a black stonewashed one with distinct yellow seams. I always liked this kind, but I think, this will probably only work with thicker yellow seams. Maybe, such Denim-jackets will again appear on the market. Would be nice.

That's one of those often said aphorisms that is obviously only partly true. But no amount of nonchalance will stop people from looking ridiculous in some items of clothing.

Give me Liberace's bank balance and I'll happily wear that outfit! He didn't care nor did his millions of fans. Bit of an extreme example but in real life fashion/style (and as much as some here may deny it, our jackets are still fashion) is always driven by the ones who aren't afraid to stand out. Be it in a subculture or elsewhere. I am by nature fairly shy and lack a certain amount of confidence but not when it came to clothes. For some reason I've always pushed at least my own boundaries in that area. So I stand by my statement.

I tend to agree. My only creative expression in my clothing comes from my jackets and I want them to stand apart from the crowd. Just enough to be noticeablely different without being Elton John. Even my buddies, who have no interest in these things at all, can appreciate them for their quality and unique nature. I've never felt they have an impact on my age or perception of my age but they do speak to my taste level (for better or worse).
