Will definitely open a thread when the finished product has been delivered. Greg will also share some production pics on his instagram. It has been a great journey up till now.

Didn’t actually buy this but considering it. This one is on pre-order and not out yet. I’ve always liked the Commando and we have members here that own them. But I’m confused about the leather. I feel like I’ve read about this here before but can’t recall where. I know it has and so sorry if the answer has become well known by now. The question is in regards to the Vanson-Left Field-Butterscotch Aloha Jacket. Aka Commando. In the written description they call it Competition Weight. But under the breakdown/stats of the jacket it’s x-150. I know there’s been a lot of confusion over x-150 and z-150 and now add in this. Can anyone provide me with an explanation before I consider ordering? Thanks guys!

They've made the Commando in various leathers, including Horween CXL. Probably a copypasta job on the description. Best to write them and ask.

This is so cool: I've made my own design for a new halfbelt which Greg (Field Leathers) is going to make for me. I've made some drawings on my computer but I wasnt sure how my design would look like when taking my body proportions into account. He's now making a new back panel with a 1 inch deeper back yoke, to see which one I prefer.

Reading your (and also Robbies) review on your Field leather jackets made me pull the trigger. Greg is extremely patient with me and I also love how he's open to discuss design ideas while giving advice on what works and what doesn't.

The photo is the seller's sorry but you'll kinda get the idea !
Next time the jacket appears on the lounge it will be in one of those "awfully boring beautiful Indian Ocean seascapes"..

Half cuff which is standard on his Idaho design. If I could choose I would go for a buttoned cuff but since he's a startup business I assume he doesn't have a button hole machine yet. He does offer a cuff with a snap button but I think that will look out of place on this jacket.

I have been thinking about a strap too. I had a jacket with a cuff strap but every time i put the jacket on the strap moves to the cuff opening and I had to put in back in place. However, that was a cow leather jacket :

Does anybody have experience with cuff straps in horsehide? (More sturdy leather?)

Its great fun to do a full customized jacket but I have to admit that its also somewhat stressful, having to make choices on every little detail. I think Ive changed the placement and angle of the handwarmer pockets 3 times after sharing my design sketch with Greg.

I almost feel like the number of choices we have these days can be a bad thing. You can be paralyzed by the number of options. How many different types o animal hides, the tanning process, any special coatings and additional treatments,the color the style, the hardware, the fit. We now live in a place where thats all possible. Plus then it makes us spend more. Back in the day from like 30s-60s people bought one or two and wore them as needed. Of course theres always collectors but not like now. Now we can have perfectly fine even great jackets and we get bored, want to try the newest this or that, convince ourselves the fit isnt right. Im all for choices and its a beautiful thing, but on the other hand it causes ocd, a lot of money, and sometimes complete paralysis caused by choice overload haha
