I've got a 1940s Windward Perfecto-style jacket on the way. Apparently carried by foot. Should've been here two days ago but the USPS keeps pushing the delivery date back.
Newman strikes again. He’s great at not doing his job. Maybe the postal employees belief the gov’t shutdown translates toI've got a 1940s Windward Perfecto-style jacket on the way. Apparently carried by foot. Should've been here two days ago but the USPS keeps pushing the delivery date back.

I just received some bad news from the guys at Langlitz. Due to the difficulty of converting the cross Columbia pattern into a straight zip jacket, and also due to the fact that they have had to remake both of my earlier orders to get the size right, they have decided to pass on my new jacket order. They offered to make me any of their more conventional styles but I have my heart set on a straight zip CHP so I asked them to give me a refund instead. I am really bummed, on the one hand I’m disappointed in this response from Langlitz and on the other hand I understand where they’re coming from.
Back to the drawing board for me, I am thinking seriously about reaching out to Stu at Lost Worlds since he makes a very nice CHP.

I have one of this (bought a few months back), very nice but also short jacket. Mine needs conditionning. Is it one with side zippers?
I’m surprised to hear that!! I’d think it would not be too difficult to modify a sidewinder and create a single breasted CHP. I mean even if they go off the Columbia pattern...it’s not that much different at all. LW is a great option. You might consider Johnson leathers too if you want more pattern flexibility. Please post picts of yours!
That's a great looking jacket but far too short. It needs 3" of body length.Like yours, this 1940s Windward is very short (21" length from the bottom of the collar). The leather, which I believe is horsehide, isn't very impressive. Conditioning might help a little, but it doesn't compare to my 1950s FQHH Rich Sher. The snaps and belt buckle are also smaller and cheaper in comparison. I like the red wool lining and the side zips. The squared off epaulettes are interesting. But overall, my Rich Sher beats this Windward hands down. The later 1950s Windwards with quilted linings look a step above this one.
I'm sending this one back due to the short length, inaccurate measurements from the seller, some undisclosed damage (paint on one sleeve, lining rip at a seam, leather separation at a shoulder) and a god-awful smell of cigarettes and mothballs.
I know men wore high-rise pants back in the 1940s, but the dimensions of this jacket are odd. And in the photo, I've got my pants hiked up as far as they'll go.
EDIT: After taking a closer look at the leather, it's definitely horsehide. For kicks, I applied a little dab of leather conditioner in a couple spots. It absorbed immediately. A Lexol/Pecards treatment would most definitely help revive this horse.

Absolutely 100% agree. Were people that much shorter in the 1940s? I'm 5-9, not tall by any means. That's a great looking jacket but far too short. It needs 3" of body length.
No I don't think so but the length on so many vintage m/c jackets seems to hover around 22"-24" in back...3-5" too short for me.Absolutely 100% agree. Were people that much shorter in the 1940s? I'm 5-9, not tall by any means.
Lone Pine coats are very expensive but the quality is there - 0n sale around $1900.00. The pictures really don't do the coat justice - and I know that statement has become a cliché, but it's true.Looks very nice. Double zip and button up too. If the fit is good you've got a winner. How much is this coat..??

Spoken like a true, card carrying TFL member. I understand.partial justification/excuse that I will be selling off some items to kinda offset the expense.
