I think that jacket is made with the Z-150. It's a slightly "lighter" hide than the full comp weight...I had a Derby in it...really great stuff and more than heavy/thick enough for my liking...can't wait to see more pics Nick. Love the plaid too! I believe this jacket is SOLD OUT and no longer available
I thought Vanson had only two types of leather, competition weight and firenze. I don't see the Z-150 mentioned on there website.

They have several, actually. The Z-150 is mainly featured in their 2015 catalog. They also have horsehide exclusively for the Japanese market, and something else. What Ton said, the Z-150 is described as smooth, shiny, wax finished cowhide that is slightly lighter than their comp. weight - but at 1.2 mm, I would still call heavyweight. It's often seen on colabs. I think it's the nicest looking leather they have, at least on the photos.

Exactly what Monitor said and they don't advertise it. They do call it "special waxy cowhide" on their site. There's also another I believe labeled c-150 and it's just a slight and I mean slight nudge heavier than the z-150. And I have to agree that the z-150 is spectacular. The only hide I don't care for is their pebbled medium weight. Everything else is absolutely top tier.

Yes, I'd estimate the leather to be very close in proximity with Aero FQHH weight. Maybe a tad lighter. Just some initial thoughts. I've worn it for a total of 2 minutes thus far; haven't had the time to really look it over yet!!

I can say with certainty that although often filled with foolish moments ($) and regret (selling), this is genuinely the coolest hobby filled with some really cool/good people. I may have lost count, but I've had FUN. Being a materialistic hound while consequently learning the life lesson of not getting TOO attached to these material items and others I love so dearly...it's the experience over tangibility for me. The leather feels good to the touch, it's totally full grain, tanned by hand, and aged to perfection somewhere in Japan; but one day it will all be dust blowing in the wind I won't give thought to...I do believe there's a jacket heaven after this life for us Outerwear people.

The only thing I'd rather do is be a scale model builder, but that's over my head.

A D pocket Vanson is a special and rare thing. You're very lucky to have it! Still waiting for more pics:)

I don't know if I should brag about this or be embarrassed by it, but I'm fairly certain I have at least 28 jackets in the closet right now. What definition of jacket are we going by? If we're talking all jackets -- suit, coat, shirt, bomber, hipster, casual, formal, zipper, button etc etc -- yeah, I've owned at least a hundred over the last twelve years...

Wow - if I were to go back to when I purchased my very first leather jacket (1968 or thereabouts) then I've probably had nearly 100 leather jackets/coats since then. My current count is 39 which is way too many for one person. Of those about 18 or so are premium (Aero, Vanson, Schott, U.S. Authentic (M-444)) along with some Taylor police/uniform jackets and other assorted casual/street leather outerwear. At one time in the past I had 7 Aero jackets (2 new, 5 pre-owned) but now only have a 1950's HB in black FQHH and a LHB in Cordovan CXL.

Of course having such an assortment of leather outerwear to choose from might make what to wear difficult but of the jackets I have I may wear a dozen or so on a rotating basis. It seems that parting with even one is like having a longtime friend move away never to be heard from again.

There are many on this forum that (I'm sure) have a far more prestigious assemblage of leather jackets but to have just a few that really hit the mark is enough for me.

Now if only the temps here in Central VA would moderate down so I could wear one!

I can't even tell you how many jackets I've owned in the past decade. Jackets come and go with frequency. In saying that, I don't own much in the way of leather jackets; because of that, you do hear too much from me.

At the moment and I started last year:

- Eastman Pearl Harbor A-2
- Aero Leathers A-1
- Aero Leathers Half-Belt (One of a kind sample)
- Vintage Pony styled by Durable
- Messed shrinked, crispy goatskin Eastman A-2 (It's just to remind me not to do ever again HWT and to salvage the knits and the zipper)

Want to part with the first two probably but can't seem to be able.
