I have noticed there have been many threads on which type of pomade/wax/grease people use to achieve their style but little on how people achieve their style. I remember one gentleman posting a step by step process of how he achieved his look, but now seem to have lost it. Just want some fresh ideas really. So anyone know of any websites? (my preferance is for early 1950's cuts). How do you guys style your hair?

Mineral oil is good for keeping it ruly.

Isn't unruly kinda like nonchalant, a word with no non-negative antecedant?

In otherwords, ain't that a back formation? Won't back formations ruin English for the rest of us in much the same way that nylon, gortex and polyester ruined fashion.

Just wondering.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

P.S. I do it like the tutorial but mine still stays flat. Maybe I need to go over it again. :)

What type of pomade do you use? If it's too heavy you may not be able to get the height. You might need to experiment with a mixture of pomades - I use Black & White (fairly heavy) for hold, and soften it up with a little red Sweet Georgia Brown. To get good height I find it best to brush the front forward first, then brush it straight up and push it back with my hand rather than brushing it back. Comb the sides back to blend them in and you should be done.

That sort of sounds about right. I could comb the front forward than then up instead of back. I'll Have to try it

I use American Crew Pomade.

I've got the whole Conan O'brian thing going on with my hair. I've had it that way since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Except between 14 and 15:rolleyes:

I highly recomend American Crew hair cream. It is very good and it holds like your hair is naturally cut the way it holds. It is also good since it is not very thick. Though it doesn't handle well under a hat or in warm weather as well.

The use of 'ruly' was flawless!

Naturally,........

......I just naturally blow dry it in an open cockpit,.....on weekdays, that is. For special occasions like weekends and holidays, a good gel of some sort is the only thing that can keep it under some semblance of control. Otherwise, I just wear my hat.:cool2:

Ya know,..for me, theres just some days when the even best pomades aint strong enough.
Thats when i gotta pull out the hairnet.
But then,.... if Im gonna do that,...I gotta grab me one a my vintage pendletons and a pair a starched vintage kahkis and glossy black captoes.
Heh, heh.
Now thats a 40's/50's hardcore vintage style that turns heads, ese.
