That's great! LOL! Better than my story:just minutes ago I had a pretty unique reaction to my hat.
I'm in Kings supermarket on line wearing a CD on a rainy morning... the man in front of me who looks to be in his 80s or possibly 90s who was buying a small container of prepared hot soup and a roll said to me...
"I like that hat... what you need to do is stick an arrow through the crown and run down to the police station yelling the Indians are coming"
We both giggled and went on our way

When I stopped on the candy run yesterday, I saw an older guy (75-80 I'm guessing) struggling to get out of his car. I was in a bit of a hurry, but felt compelled to walk over and offer the gentleman my hand. He looked up at me quizzically, wondering - I'm sure - WTH does this guy want? You should have seen him size me up and down, coming back to the hat I was wearing, his eyes just zeroing in on my hat. I offered him my hand and said, "can I give you a hand up?" He declined but was gracious and complimented me on my hat.
Nice guy, but I saw him later at checkout, right behind me with his sole purchase: a gallon (?) jug of Carlo Rossi Burgundy. I said, "you caught me!" He gave me an annoyed look this time. Then as I was gathering my bag of candies, the 17 year old check out girl told him that because of her age she couldn't sell him any alcohol and pointed to other checkers who could help. Now he was really perturbed.
He was a nice guy, but I'm just guessing he was in need of a drink. I can relate. A kid at the church started talking about the incredible smoked brisket he ate at his graduation party... don't get between me and smoked pork! This was about 11:30 a.m. and I only had a banana for breakfast! Man, was I starving!
