How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Unless that hat is squashing your head, it looks like it fits you fine.

Wow....really? It feels like it's so far off from my original desire.
I was aiming for "Caleb" from "Blood-II"

but instead ended up somewhere....different.
It's not bad, but not what I desired.

Well, I was describing how I think it looks like it fits, not the look you were after.

And that's an issue with buying hats not-in-person, especially for a new hat wearer. What you see on a web page is not necessarily gonna look the same way on your own head. To me, the difference is only millimeters in any dimension can make or break the way I think a hat looks on me and whether or not I will wear it. Sometimes working it over my tea kettle will produce satisfactory results and sometimes it doesn't.

Now, regarding the piece of artwork you posted, attempting to recreate a drawing in real life is even more difficult than replicating a real item. There have been discussions here about the hat The Shadow wears. Very cool in the cartoon, but getting an exact replica in actual felt, though, is nigh on impossible, unless you are going for one particular drawing, and then again, from that angle. And then that's not always possible. Just look here to see how many takes there are on that hat:

The point is, find a style you like and work with it. I know nothing about Beyonce or her dancers, but imho, that hat looks good on you.

Thank you. That, sincerely, made me feel better about the hat...and how it looks.
Perhaps I will wear it to church tomorrow...
Still...I am going to widen the head-hole with the hat stretcher until it sits more flatly on my head.
Nothing to lose...everything to gain!

The hat on this drawing, if it have a 3" flare crown (flat top, not a telescope like most western hats), it would have a 6" brim!
I need to have a 4" crown (that is how deep my head goes inside it)... that would make a 8" brim. It would be a heavy hat if made of felt! It would cover my shoulders for sure :D Finding a fur felt this big is "THE" challenge! Probably a felt with 30 to 32" in diameter!

Another part of the problem is that artists often "adjust" the proportions in order to get the look they want for the character; in this case, making Caleb's head smaller in order to make him look more like a hulking brute. In the real world he'd look closer to this:

Either way, I doubt a crown that small would fit on his head properly, especially with all of that hair.

And welcome to The Lounge Dm101!

We attended a Spanish speaking congregation for church this morning. Saw some people we haven't seen for a few years and others we see in town sometimes. Anyway, my friend's daughter was there with her husband and kids and as she walked by me in the hallway, grabbing up a kiddo as she whisked by, she said, I love your hat! I love your whole outfit!

VS silvermist, burgundy guayabera shirt and blue slacks with my 1776 Alan Edmond spectator style shoes (red, white and blue).

Goodness...you guys are AWESOME!!
Thankyou for the enlightening and sobering info on the "Caleb Hat" Zombie_61!!!
I think I'll just stick with my 4" brim Bolero hat. 8" would definitely be the Beyonce Hat...lol.
Took a look at my Bolero hat again today and fitted it sitting on my head with the crown level and the brim back flat...it's going to work JUST fine once I get that hat stretcher in and open it up.
Can't wait!!!!

At times we can be just as dysfunctional and argumentative as any other family, but the members here are always willing to help and I've never seen any of them intentionally steer anyone wrong.

Most of us here have seen hats in movies, on TV, in artwork, and so on, that we've liked and would like to own, but the thing to remember is that any hat has to work for the person wearing it. I don't know whether or not an exact replica of the "Caleb" hat would look good on you, but I think the Bolero hat does; similar to the Caleb hat, but one that you've made your own. If you can get the size right, I think you'll enjoy wearing it a lot more.

You're right, to expect that same result is ridiculous...
Can't help but like it though. I took a look at "The Shadow" and his hat looks EXACTLY like mine!!!
The hat stretcher will get me to where I need to be.
Speaking of which...the universe has a sick sense of humor.
My hat stretcher wasn't due to arrive from amazon until this thursday.
I decided to take today off and relax at home...no reason to go into town, it's the holidays...right?
I get a notification that my hat stretcher arrived and is ready for pickup at the post office in town...TODAY.
*face-palm*
I would be a complete COMPLETE hypocrite if I went into town to get it after I vehemently explained to the wife that I wasnt leaving the house today for ANYTHING...lol

Just wanted to post an update...and thank you guys for the encouragement.
The Bolero fits juuuuust fine after stretching the head-hole.

Wore it today and got some smiles while getting breakfast...even turned the head of a fine young lady across the parking lot pumping gas. She head-tracked me all the way to my car. I smiled, waved and nodded.
Spoken for already, or I would have approached.
Definitely an encouraging morning...

When on vacation in my spare time I like to check out the real local liquor stores & bars. First store I went into I was wearing a Stetson One-hundred. While making some purchases I met the owner & during our conversation on availability of various libations I noticed he was calling me "jefe", or boss. It was probably my business that earned me such respect & not my hat. But in honor of this occasion I decided that was the perfect nickname for my hat. So I have christened it jefe; the best of the best, the boss of the One-hundreds.

With his knowledge & inventory the store owner earned my respect & business; we have been back there several times & will no doubt "load up" before heading home later this coming wk.
