The problem is complex and several in that we all want cheap food, however we also want to be picky about it...
This this this! Supermarkets are pushing prices lower and lower, causing suppliers to try and find cheaper alternatives and now look where this has got us. I am ok with eating horse meat, I would just like to know that is what I am eating. I'm happy munching away on trotters, or liver, kidneys etc. (except tongue, cows pick their nose with that! I have seen them!) it's very tasty and cheap! God I want liver and onions now...
Also what part of the horse am I eating? I question the very same thing in all processed foods, 100% beef, yeah ok but is that rump or gristle?
I'm lucky and my mum taught me to cook and I also enjoy it. I was the only person I knew (Except my Chinese flat mate) at uni who cooked fresh meals every night. If it was frozen, it was frozen left overs. Far cheaper, tastier and healthier. I lost weight at uni, while everyone else gained!
I really worry about people of my generation and those younger than me as not many know how to cook, have the families able and/or willing to teach them and a lack of education in schools about basic cooking.
But I digress...
