Hooded top- ideas please

Hi

I have a load- and I mean a load- of hooded tops from Gothic Couture Designer Heavy red- so not your usual jersey ones. These are slinky knit fabric, some opaque, some sheer in black and grey colours. I haven't been wearing them much because they are have a high neckline which makes my bust look heavy and i'm not sure how to work them with a vintage-eqsue look. I was going to auction them off on ebay but my other half says he really likes them- so any ideas on how to use them in a vintage type outfit (I don't mind making some altertations- if i keep them I will be hemming the 'extra long' sleeves). Sorry no pics because i'm in work. You can see examples of them on the Heavy red webiste (I have unpicked all the details off mine so they are all plain now)

I'd ask about incorporating New Rocks as he loves them too- but I'm not sure that even possible.

I think they could be very cute tucked into complimentary coloured swing trousers, the heyday range are gorgeous, as seen on the lovely Fleur.

You could embellish them with some little vintage style appliqués, buttons or trimmings. 3/4 length sleeves might look more vintage.

I'm sorry, but it's just not possible with New Rocks. I'm actually not convinced that it really is with hooded tops either, but if you make it work I'd love to see pics!

If you're just going vintage inspired then you make the rules on what is and isn't possible.

Of course you wouldn't be able to create an authentic vintage look with New Rocks but what's to stop you wearing a slinky fitted femme fatale dress with them? With blood red lips and jet black eyeliner, you could be vintage inspired but still in keeping with your gothic style.

An example that springs to mind is Lily Allen who would wear pretty, delicate prom dresses with trainers and big gold hoop earrings. Although she may not immediately look vintage inspired, her dresses were reminiscent of the 1950s, as was her flicked eyeliner. She just brought it right up to date with this urban style.

"New Rocks" are sorta Goth-y Doc Martin-y boots, yes? Clearly they will make a modern sort of statement, and can't be camouflaged as Golden Age per se, but I'm all for you making your statement

Tishkaminx, I have a pair of white kneehigh Doc Marts that I can't bear to part with, no matter how un-vintagey they are. I just wear them with a swing dress, and I get really nice comments. I'm not going to exclude something that I love just for the sake of going wholesale vintage, I can do that on other days! Mixing the two is something that will make you unique, and I'm sure nobody on here would criticise you for being that xx

I don't want to rain on your parade - and I am excited to see what you come up with - but I think Deco-punk might already be known as Dieselpunk.

Just googled and it's kinds what I'm aming for- slightly more militaristic than I care for in style but it is along the lines of the Film Dark City, that I love so much (especially Jennifer Conolly's clothes, sigh!)

Wow, I love Dark City - completely underrated film! Also - I wear one stars and docs (cherry red, 16 eyelet) with all sorts of things they ought not be worn with. Particularly with a girly straw hat and a sundress. Then again, I am not a traditionalist.
