Uh-oh! I've been cleaning out closets and decided to group all the Homburgs together ....

Here's the evidence of my uncontrollable Homburg mania:

Is there medication for this?

The only known cure is to switch to a different mania, such as Derbies.lol

I picked this up on e-Bay for practically nothing and it arrived last week just before Thanksgiving. It is a beautiful shade of brown and I am pleased with the bow; it has a bit of flare which is appealing. It is very clean and has only one small blemish on the crown which is dull black and not visible at even conversational distances. The box is in pretty good shape as well and the set makes a very nice specimen for my collection.

Just lovely, Mr. P.! Well worth purchasing a suit to properly show it off!

Nice! And easy to date to the early-'50s, too. Proof that Hat Corporation of America used the oilskin tip protectors in the early-'50s, which is when I contend they started.

Thanks for the info on the oilskin protector and dating, Mr. Bowers. I'm glad you chipped that in. You have a wealth of knowledge.

And thanks to Sue and Mayserwegener as well. I am happy with this one for sure!

Never worked up the guts for a Homburg

I really like the look of Homburgs, but think that's one hat style that would wear me, not I it.

The hats David Suchet wears in his most recent outings as Poirot are quite striking. I'd be interested in knowing who made them.

Christy's sell their Homburg model open crown so I suppose the purchaser creases it when he gets it home. Is there any room for creativity in "bashing" that center crease whilst still claiming the hat as a true Homburg? For my part, unless the crown were particularly high it would be nice to put a small flat at the bottom of the crease to make room for my enormous cranium (no joke,it's huge). Alternatively, just making the crease shallower than usual might accomplish the same goal.

I'm dreaming of a medium to dark grey Homburg to round out my selection of hats and the Christy's may be an acceptable option if I can talk myself into self-bashing an open crown hat. I'm also hopeful that the Christy's model will admit a nearly flat brim without the large "smile" that I find unappealing.

George M. Wilson The Mens Store Inc. Homburg

I found this brown George M. Wilson The Mens Store Inc. Homburg (size 7 3/8) up in Pittsburgh. Nothing on the paper label that points to the company that made it. The price was $6.00. Probably 1930s.
