It is called a hobo nickel. these were typically hand carved indian head nickels in the 1930's. Like our hats, they are great pieces of americana.

Sort of... I spotted it it in the cash drawer at Walgreens and asked the girl for it in change. She had no idea what it was. As a coin collector, it was a highlight for me.

That is really neat. I wouldn't know a collectable coin from a spot on the wall, but I would have asked for it, too.

Here is a Flechet I picked up on e-bay for around $20. Seller had listed it as a HAMBURG(!!) so there were no other hits on it.

You're not kidding about the soul and bank account. I have spent more on lids since finding this place than I have in years. Nothing outrageous...a couple of Kangols (flat cap & wool Trilby) and two Akuburas...oh and that POS Trilby from my Bay fishing trip.

Looking at all these Homburgs is killing me.

Stetson Royal Deluxe St. Regis.

Chesterfield Standard Quality, with side dents (They were in the hat's memory, so I left them).

Stetson "Genuine Fur Felt" (no other markings).

This photo is from last weekend when I took my wife to the Meyerson Symphony Hall in Dallas for her birthday. I wore my newly acquired Borsalino homburg after tweaking it a bit more from the previously posted pictures. The grey suit brings out the grey tone in the hat much more so than does a black suit. I was very pleased at the several favorable comments it received from strangers there. It has replaced my Selentino Alpha for first choice wear!

It's been a while since I checked out this thread and all I can say is Wow! There are some marvelous homburgs on display here! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

I watched "Another Thin Man" (1939) the other night. One of the charactors wore a light colored homburg with fore and aft dents. First time I've seen that feature, I believe.

I've got a few homburgs at home but have only worn a homburg twice, if I recall correctly. Both times were with a suit worn to a wedding.

I believe I have a lord's hat as well. Have to look for it when I get home.

Battersby homburg

Picked up this Battersby homburg from my local Salvation Army secondhand shop yesterday.

It will need a cleaning and reblocking, but seems to be in good shape apart from that. There is no marking of the felt quality, but it looks and feels lik a pure, or high content, beaver fur.
A label inside the sweatband says it is a 7 5/8, and controlled to my PSM (personal scull measurement ) of 7 1/2, it seems true to size. The colour is Navy, and it is almost as dark as my Sterlingwear Navy blue peacoat, so under most lightening conditions it looks black.
The sweatband is very supple, the quality reminds me of the one in my Federation IV Deluxe.
The lining has that "non-plastic plastic" covering.

The overall quality of material and workmanship is very good.

Tried to search the net (including the Lounge) for information about Hattersby, but did not find much. But I do understand that they were big and considered of high quality in the old days.

.. and it cost me about $20.

Anyone have any idea of the age of this homburg?

Dating Dunn Homburg

My Dunn homburg. Unsure of the age, but it's a nice hat.

Firstly, let me congratulate you on a fantastic homburg; Dunn made (in my opinion) some of the finest, most stylish English hats of any of the great manufactuers. This hat, dates from the early to mid 1930's; I am fortunate to have a similar hat with a dated box and background provenance. The hat is lined in a very similar treatment to this hat and Dunn frequently changed the colour and style of their hat linings depending on the quality/grade of the hat and year. Here is one of my finest Homburgs, also a Dunn and Co. I would guess from the style, mid-late 1930's:

The quality of the felt, detail of the lining and fineness of the stitching suggest to me that that this was one of their very finest hats- it is a beauty!

My latest. I'm a little unsure about this one, so I welcome any constructive criticism.

I'd suggest pushing out the pinch. With a pinch, it looks like a fedora with a too-short crown. Is the hat too tight? It has pretty extreme dip in the front and "wings-up" pretty high on the sides.
