Thanks, Stefan, a couple of great hats you have. I'm thinking the mid-brown or chocolate for the ribbon might be the best choice.

True. I think the classic look for a homburg other than black is with some contrast between felt and ribbon.

I only just started with this hat obsession, but my first purchase was a homburg (albeit not a vintage one). I took advantage of a two for one sale and got a trilby (my dad wore essentially the same hat, I've got a pic of him and me circa 1965 he's in a short-brimmed black hat) and the homburg for when I dress up. I'm wearing it in my avatar. Went to my mother in law's birthday party at a nice restaurant this weekend and somebody said, "Terry looks famous."

Alois Pichler Wien, measures 57 cm, no paper label, possibly late 1950s. I am fairly certain the Felt has some Wool content and has a very soft hand and easily dry creases. The Felt is a mélange of mostly gray and green. Not sure if this was made or sourced by Alois Pichler Wien. The components and workmanship are of high quality.

so not really "new" to me, but not shown here yet:

Borsalino Homburg in the well-known dark blue "MIRTILLO" = "Blueberry"
open crown at 14.0 cm; centre dent at 11.5 cm; brim at 5.5 cm
"Imported by Emil Kjølner Tønsberg" - near Oslo/Norway
The "cerrated roll" type label (as I learned recently) dates this to the 60s

I am not used to the look of wearing a homburg. I have a beautiful Borsalino Homburg from the 1950s . I don't like the way I look seeing the underside of the brim and the flange on the sides when looking straight on. When I flatten it with my hand so all sides look even, yet still maintaining the Homburg curl, it looks much better on my head. Is there an easy way to flatten the brim all around while keeping the curl?

Before you look to alter the hat, I’d recommend giving yourself some time to get used to homburgs. I love them and you have a great one. Maybe just see if the original shape/styling grows on you? It’s your hat so do what you will; I’ll look forward to seeing it. Sorry that I don’t have an answer to your actual question.

It's a beauty, Matt. These blue Borsalino homburgs aren't common (I don't have one!). And it's in great shape as well.

Homburgs are great. Some work with the side brims lifted aka a Lords hat, so that might be worth a try if you just can't get used to the traditional homburg look.

The homburg nation today mourns the loss of Gary Brooker, who died today at age 76. It was him (along with lyricist Keith Reid) who immortalised the homburg in the classic Procol Harum song of the same name.

While not all of his hats where as stylish as the above example (even if it isn't a homburg), he will be missed. It's him on the left in the pic below.

But here we see him sporting one as Procol Harum play this classic.
