High Rise Jeans

I much prefer a higher-ish(what is a high rise even? where does mid rise start and so on?) rise, but I like to tuck my shirts so mostly because of that.

Wish they had a high rise straight cut, I think they also have a 1955 cut which is another straight cut but it's tapered too much for my liking.

I had jeans IH 1955, they have a high fit, straight wide legs. Now IH is not releasing this model

These days, "high rise" seems to mean nothing more nor less than a waistband that actually sits on the natural waist rather than four or six inches below it. I don't like anything else at all, either aesthetically or in terms of comfort.

I tried my first high rise denims some years back (SJC Yard Boss). It took a while to getting used to, and a couple adjustments to the global wardrobe to match the style, but now it's totally impossible for me to get back to "regular" rise. High rise is much more comfortable for me, even though I also have some belly rolls. Since then, I bought another pair of SJC (Big B Battles Jeans), a couple Lutece MFG 1930s Quartermasters, WPG WW2 US officer trousers, etc etc...

And yes, I sometimes wear them with suspenders!

Will someone please explain something to me? I read on a lot of jeans forums and threads, and sometimes on here, people talking about higher rise jeans and wearing their jeans up high. I've never really gotten this as my jeans, no matter how high, low, or medium the rise measurement is, want to rest at the same spot on my waist, which is just below my little paunch. I can't pull them up any higher than that because of my fat shelf/muffin top/love handles. If I wanted to pull them up over that I'd need a size 50 LOL. Are the guys telling people to wear them up higher 0% body fat guys or something, with no chub around the middle whatsoever? btw - I'm a relatively slim guy but with just a little jelly roll under my navel that goes all the way around (spare tire), like most guys.

I just read a post from someone on another site, schooling people that the way to buy jeans online is to take the 'rise' measurement and measure that on your body to determine where the waist of that particular pair will hit you, and then measure around that part of your body to determine what waist size you need in that particular pair. To me this seems nuts because I'm not wearing any pants with the waist up over the navel. It would be impossible, they'd just slide off, regardless of how tight my belt is. It would only work with suspenders, or with a rise so high that it would need to be at my rib cage (like Fred Mertz on I love Lucy) lol. And like I said, I'd need a crazy large size like a 50 to wear them like that anyway, at the thickest spot on my body, even if they could somehow magically stay up.

I always buy the same waist measurement and wear them all at the same spot on my waist, and if they're higher rise jeans then they fit me with a little more room at my undercarriage than a lower rise pair. But apparently this is the wrong way to wear higher-rise pants according to some people, and I'm a rube and doing it all wrong. What am I missing?

All that higher rise means is that the "waist" is cut so that what was the waist, sits higher. In other words, hipsters become titsters. You can see it clearly in this photo. I chose to show it in white for the sake of clarity, but you can buy denim blue in the same style very easily.

Saw a lengthy discussion on the subject on an FB group lately, and in the end, it depends on British English vs American English.

Seen English is not my mother tongue, I'll resort to the one that suits me best!

And mind you, I cannot fathom imagining myself wearing what you would call suspenders... ^^

Rumours of use of both at the same time in the corridors of power - reasonably harmless in England I expect (rollerblades would be a different matter!)

Indeed, jeans always sit in one place at the waist, regardless of the physique. High-rise jeans are more comfortable in the groin area.

Yep, simply stated and same for me.

FWIW, I prefer a low or Midrise (for comfort). I’ve tried high rise, but they give me diaper butt. Granted it all depends on on individual physique.

Which ones are these? I have a pair of Yardboss jeans from the first round, and they’re great!

this rise height still looks good, I think this is more mid rise? at least it looks mid rise on you.

Those on the picture are the SJC Big B Battle Denims.

Same here, my Yard Boss were part of the first batch, they're absolutely neat. I just need to have them repaired at the crotch and they should be good to go again.

As noted above, it's the old saw of 'Two states separated by a common language'. In the US, they call teeth braces braces, and trouser braces 'suspenders'. From memory, they call suspenders - which ladies use to hold up their stockings - a "garter belt".

call suspenders for stockings whatever you want as long as they are as my definition (as I recall Eric Morecambe wore sock suspenders - not the same effect)

My two staples:
634 are straight (they may not be high enough for you). 888 are pretty good (NOT skinny).

Being Irish and living in London, you and I both speak the same language on this one.

I do remember dear Eric's sock suspenders; I have a few pairs myself. I'm too lazy for them most days, but for special occasions they're a nice detail.
