High Price for Vintage Suit ?

This gets into another aspect of eBay prices: the perceived "value" of a seller's merchandise.

The chap who sold this suit, "Captain Hogspear", sells lots of fine 20th century British military uniforms and furnishings. He nearly always gets TOP DOLLAR for everything. At this point, he has earned a reputation as someone whose merchandise goes for a lot of money -- and deservedly so (in the opinion of his customers). Hogspear has repeat buyers who are willing to pay. This "high price syndrome" raises the perceived value of everything he sells, even those items that are not British militaria.

CROSBY_SQUARE??? Why the fellow is a compete scoundrel! He never pays enough for anything!

No, but seriously folks.....

Hogspear sells some excellent stuff though his descriptions are pretty minimal and you won't get any more info from him as its all packed and sealed on listing.

That suit was disgusting. On a par with paisley loon pants. The Hogspear suit that had me drooling was this 1947 dated beauty. Only the thought of my starving pale faced children prevented me bidding on it.

yes, I thought it would at least break the £100 barrier. It had everything going for it: Jermyn Street tailor, excellent date, complete three-piece, and double breasted to boot - DB tweed suits don't exactly grow on trees. And it had that look...you know, when things just scream quality!

In fact it was the brown tweed suit I've been after for years! I must be mad! I should have bid and let the kids starve.

What do you think of the winning price: $603 ? It's British, it's bespoke, and it's around the corner from Savile Row. A smallish size, too. Made in 1956. Maybe on the verge of vaudeville clownish? Or not?

Suits in that puny size are a dime a dozen. I am very surprised it even went that high. If it were a size 42 or over then it would make sense. I won't even mention how it looks like something Captain Kangaroo would wear. :p
