A friend of mine recently bought a bowler and it has a little pearl pin in the band bow. It looks like a corsage pin and we were wondering what that was for?
Is it just something that was left there from making it or does it serve a purpose?[huh]

Forgive our ignorance but I don't think it's there to pin that hat in his hair like a ldies hat pin. LOL Ouch!

No, i think bowler and derby are pretty much interchangeable in the US.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that "bowler" is the preferred name in England, and "derby" is more common in the U.S. Same hat.
