Henry the Hatter

Yesterday I took my son to see the new "Karate Kid"...(not a bad film actually, but I digress)...
On their way out of Detroit, the characters passed by a place named "Henry the Hatter".
I looked them up on the 'Interweb' and apparently they've been "Detroits Exclusive Hatter since 1893"

Anyone ever been there??....Bought anything??

HTH

Henry the Hatter in the movie? Now I have to go see it.

HTH is a fantastic place! It has been around since the date you indicated, though it has changed owners a few times. I get all my new hats there and take in the old ones if anything needs to be repaired, cleaned or blocked.

It is a very customer friendly business and everyone knows the product. Great advice about what looks good, too.

If you are ever in the Detroit area, I suggest you stop in and have a look. You can catch them on the web, too.

It's just a quick driveby, as one of the characters is day-dreaming out of a car window.
I think there someone sweeping the pavement out the front.

Mate.....I have trouble organising my self to have a trip to 'The Hattery' in Katoomba. I think Detrout's reeeeeeally pushing my luck ;-)

Excellent shop, service and staff! I always make it a point to stop in whenever I'm in the area. Kudos to HTH!

Been in there several times. I think the selection is good and the staff can be a little cold at times, but they are helpful. I heard that the original owner was the boxing commissioner of Detroit at one time. The neon sign outside is fantastic!

Please allow me to appologize for the "Cold Service" that you may have received at our store. This is not a common occurance, and will not be tolerated in our stores. Please pm me with the particulars as to which store, and if you can, which salesperson. It is hard enough getting the customers in without turning them away. Joe Renkiewicz, General Manager, HTH

Henry the Hatter is the best hat store in the midwest. They have been in business for over 100 years.
Salesmen are only human . Sometimes a customer can drive a person a little crazy. After a long day , it can be hard to give 100% of your attention.

I am new to the world of Fedoras, and have the bug real bad. I am planning on visiting Henry's this weeknd, so I'll give a 'newby'experiance report. I just bought a Biltmore Ark in Chicago 10 days ago, and the folks over there were very nice. It would be great if I can find my hats I need (yes NEED) locally.

Bought my first real fedora at the store in Oak Park. A Borsalino "Como". Most recently I took a "beater" acquired from another FLer to the shop for a new band and a little TLC. "Joedehat" took care of me.

Never had an issue with HtH and I hope they are around for another 100 years. Somethings should never change.

And thanks Joe for taking care of me.

Cheers,

JDG

]I went to Henry's Southfield store on Friday. The staff was EXCELLENT! I was assisted by a lady named O'Neka, who knew her hats! I went home to think it over, then returned Saturday with my wife (yes her opinion counts too) and now am a proud owner of a new Giorgio Cellini 'Astair' made by Biltmore, in Dark Oak Brown. It has a 4 1/2 inch C-crown, and 2 1/4 brim. Oh BTW, my wife thinks I need a navy Fedora, and possibly one in a dark burgandy! These look like maybe Christmas....and I'm sure I'll be back to Henry's. As soon as I can figure how to post a photo of decent size, I'll post photos.:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Sam, you da man! Thanks for the very kind words. I am extremely lucky to have a wonderful, caring, gorgeous bride (are you reading all this Sweetie Pie?) I found a photo of Henry's, where I was trying on the Giorgio Cellini. Not real clear as its from a cell phone, but yo can get an idea of the quantity and quality of Henry the Hatters. And this is not even their main store!

The fella's at the Broadway location were kind enough to let me snap a couple pics of the shop for the FL'ers over the summer. I've been a lazy bum and haven't taken the time to upload them yet. Or the Worth and Worth hat I bought in May. I gotta start catching up on some of these things! :eusa_doh:

I have finally got off my duff, and took one of my western style felt hats to HTH for a conversion. I am having the brim trimmed to 2.5 inches, it reblocked, cleaned, and bashed to a teardrop. I left it with paul, and it should be ready in a week or so. Here are a couple of before photos. wish me (them) luck!

That's going to turn into one high-crowned hat with a fairly narrow brim! I can't wait to see it.
