Henley shirts?

I didn't know before, that these buttoned shirts are named this. In old Germany, these shirts are not really seen, on the streets.

But, when I'm thinking about, is this the perfect combination of Denim-jacket and shirt? o_O

Nein, nein und nochmal nein!!

I don't like these Henley shirts, they just look terrible, either open or buttoned up. They're called Henley shirts because they were used by rowers on the river Thames, in Henley, England. I do confess that I wore one in the 1990s, it was made by Levi. All those aging heavy metal head bangers wearing them open, showing ample chest hair, with their faded denim jackets have put me right off them. Forever.

I quite like them and have a few. I like their rustic feel.
Although I did get a comment several years ago, when in a bar playing pool wearing blue jeans, white ribbed henley shirt, and brown suede leather jacket, that I looked like an Amish...

Henleys are all I have been wearing for nigh on ten years. I think they are the perfect combination of buttons and collarlessness.

Since open heart surgery a year and a half ago, they are even more 'necessary' for me, as anything that rubs across the lump of wire under my skin at t-shirt neck-opening level is annoying, and after a short time, irritating.

I agree. I rarely wear shirts with collars now. In the summer it's tee shirts, Henleys or knit golf shirts if I really need to dress up. In the wintertime I go to long sleeves & mock turtlenecks usually replace the golf shirts.

I always button the Henleys up so they will lay as flat as possible & not catch my beard.

I love henleys. I look good in them. My wife loves me in them. I own several. When I lived in the frozen North (Alaska), I wore them often. Down in hot Texas, I don't wear them as much but I still own several.
Looks good under a leather jacket or coat or a denim jacket.

I got this LVC Henley. It's based on a worn-out vintage thing that was discovered by the company and reproduced - I got for buttons, comparatively-speaking, sans label, and it's a really substantial cloth and looks great on.

I really like it, though it's more a fall to spring top than a summer one as the cloth's so robust and the fit very close, so it's pretty warm.

I love me a good henley!
Here are a few that I have:

Stevenson Overall Co. Loopwheel henley. I love the off white color. This is probably my favorite henley.

I can take closer pics if needed, but this is what I had on Imgur already :)
