Help please - 40s Dog Movie

Going crazy again. Anyone recall a 40s picture about a man and a woman who die and come back as a dog and a cat, or perhaps it was a dog and a cat that come back as a man and a woman? I had thought William Powell was in it, but a search turned up nothing. Can't remember much else about it except that I saw it a few times as an extremely young lad. It was black and white. At the end they go back up to heaven.

Regards,

Senator Jack

I think I know this one

It sounds like You Never Can Tell with Dick Powell.
Dick Powell is the human version of a dog that was killed. He tries to solve the murder as a P.I named Rex King. Powell spoofs his tough gumshoe persona. I thought his cohort was a woman who had been a horse.
I hope that is the one about which you were thinking.

Sinverely,

The only movie I can think of at the top of my head ,with a story line like that is, 'O Heavenly Dog' that stars Chevy Chase. But it's an 80's movie....Pretty good though

Aaargh, that was it, Wolf! I should have thought of Dick Powell. I wonder if it's as good as I remember it. I'll have to find it.

Thanks for solving this one for me.

That's one of my favorites. Oh, and it's Rex Shepherd and his assistant is a woman who used to be a racehorse. I taped it years ago. We watch it all the time.

Check ebay :) Trix

There are so many movies that we think are new, but they are actually retakes of old movies. Groundhog Day for instance, is one that I heard was a revamp of an old movie using the same basic plotline.

Trickeration, you got me

I forgot the name was Rex Sheperd. I remembered it was a good dog name.
I still get half points though.:eusa_doh:

That is a movie I wish "they" would put on DVD.

Sincerely,
The Wolf
