HELP ME, HELP ME…….

I just got my 1st Nutria Quality Cover, A True Smokey Bear Hat, and could use some help with Restoring the hat and trying to determine it’s age.

The Bad News: Almost all of the bites are under the band but several are deep.

Other than the bites and a little milldew, there is nothing that a good cleaning & a new ribbon would not cure.
I’m thinking the hat is from the late 30’s to early 40’s. (come-on you Stetson Experts, help me out!!!)

Any suggestions on the deep bites ?????

As a Fellow Pumpkin Head, you know how special it is to find Vinatge Hats in our size.

yeah its rather frustrating...and then most of the time that you do find something in your size its normally not anywhere near what you are looking for. thats one of the reasons I'm going to try making my own hats lol

scary thing is a guy I use to work with has an even BIGGER head!

Tinmanzzz, I've got one just like it in almost pristine condition. I figured that it is probably from the 50's. I've taken to wearing it as part of my work uniform when I feel like it but the sweatband just started to seperate at the front stitching so I have to try the hot glue repair before it spreads any further. I've got other Montana Peak style campaign hats but that one just looks the best on me.

My customers get a kick out of seeing me wear it as well as the fedoras since that is unusual in this area. Everyone remembers "the guy in the hat" . Doesn't hurt that I drive a big red retired EMS Rescue Squad as a work truck either.

Yours ought to clean up ok, maybe put a new ribbon on it and enjoy an uncommon piece of headgear amongst civilians! I know that I do!
