Hello folk! I stumbled across this forum yesterday, what a great place!

Is a fedora made of only felt or can a fedora be made of straw?

Oh and how many of you wear gatsby caps?

I'll post pics. of my hat collection when I get home.

Thanks

Welcome. Pull up a bar stool.

Read a few threads in the Hat forum, and you'll find discussions of felt, wool and straw. Fur felt is a better material than wool, although there are many blends around. Straw and toquilla fiber (used in Panama hats) are two different things that create different types of hats. You'll find that folks here own all of the above.

A fedora is a type of hat. It can be made from various materials. A fedora can be made of straw but they are generally referred to as a panama---even if they were made other places from different materials. :D
When you mention Gatsby caps, do you mean the newsboy style caps? I have one of those and yes, I wear it when the weather permits. I was looking into having a Big Apple custom made from an old one I have. The run would have to be a considerable amount so I really have not given it much thought lately. [huh]

Regards,

J
