Celebrated another trip around the sun today (all weekend, to be honest) at a cabin on Lookout Mountain with a bottle of Gentleman Jack. The hat for the trip was an old Towncraft that's been around a few times itself. I don't know anything about that bottle of wine, I didn't even try any of it.
Happy birthday! Great way to celebrate.

Happy Birthday Dale.

Happy Birthday Dale! I like the way you celebrate holed up in a cabin. Sounds like a beautiful time.

Happy birthday brother

Happy Birthday Dale!

Birthday in a remote cabin with scenery - sounds like paradise! Cheers on your special day Dale.

Eric -

Happy birthday, Cuz. A fine spot for a celebration.

Happy birthday! Great way to celebrate.

Thanks for all the well wishes my friends!

I am (regrettably) safely back in civilization this evening, enjoying a few cold Bitburgers and a Hendrix CD I was gifted. I hope the neighbors are enjoying it, too. I've been wearing this 4X Open Road today.

Last night I poured a dram of Glenrothes Makers Cut.

i-Gm4Tdnk-M.jpg

I have sampled this, but the pic shows only a small bit. I recalled it to be sherry forward in taste. The raisin, sweet, spices and an earthy finish was my taste last night. The smell is different than the taste. The smell has a mushroom earthiness, vanilla and berry. The earthiness is what remains when sipped. I think it is a fun Speyside Scotch Whiskey to sit and experience slowly.

We will have a spate of colder weather coming and I have been thinking to be have at the ready a hardy and bolder dram this evening.

Cheers, Eric -

Cheers. Beer and a fire - my idea of an evening. I do like your fire pit.

Interesting beer this evening. My beer friends have spoken to your beer and this evening I googled the beer for more info. I will have to look for the beer locally to sample.

Home only a bit ago and I have cooled down with a walkabout sipping a Guinness. My wife should be home in a bit and I have the Laphroaig Quarter Cask at the ready. If she is at all late, I am going to pour a small dram and sit on the deck waiting her arrival. I did pop the cork and smell the whiskey. The medicinal peat smell gives way to an oak or a soft sweet fruit smell. On a night with snow flakes in the air it is an appropriate whiskey choice.

A night out in Osaka. Malbec with dinner. I’m quite a fan of Malbec, and this was a smoky, oaky, dry, but fruity little number.

Our first visit to our friends’ bar in…seems like forever.

Tasting a few whiskies.
I started with a Glenfarclas 105.

At 60%, it packs a punch, but I really enjoyed the toffee-like sweetness followed by a bit of smoke.
Etsuko had a Basil Hayden’s Kentucky bourbon.

I went from Highland to Speyside with a Macallan, while Etsuko went Ardbeg.

I joined her in Islay with the old favourite, Lagavulin. Etsuko had the same.

I got home from gallivanting at work and milled about outside sipping an Omni Brewing Pilsner.

I started grilling some cabbage, bratwurst and potatoes for a dinner and the snow started. In celebration of the start of the first measurable snowfall I poured a dram of Glen Allachie Cask Strength 10. The bold sherry cask taste is followed by the fruity, a bit of sweet and finsihes with spice.

Delicious beer in a hat!

Strolling about this evening sipping a Founders KBS. This is a big tasting Imperial Stout at 12% ABV. Absolutely tasty this evening.

i-7Gxwv6V-M.jpg

"KBS is a big imperial stout brewed with a massive amount of coffee and chocolate and then bourbon barrel-aged to perfection," says Founders website. I hardily agree. "Smooth and full bodied." - Speaking truth. On the negative this beer is rather pricey in my neighborhood. I pick the beer up around $18.00+ for a 4 pack.

I hope you all are enjoying the evening as much as I am.

Cheers, Eric -

Some trading finds me fortunate to be sipping a Russian River Pliny the Elder this evening.

i-sSRdGJ3-M.jpg

It is a double IPA, at 8%. At 8% it is the lowest it can be for a double IPA. BTW: Some internet reading this evening has me finding out that Pliny the Elder was a Roman scholar, naturalist and author. A craminess and a hop explosion on the finish are my immediate taste. Clean and well mannered. Some other double IPA's I have had can be boozy, or hash or just bold. This is just a terrific balance between sugar, hop and alcohol. A true pleasure to drink and it makes me appreciate double IPA's again. This is a tame, but excellent DIPA.

This is a scarce beer made by the Californian brewer, Russian Brewing Co. I had to make some trades and work to get 2 bottles to Minnesota. Tonight I say it was worth it.

Cheers, Eric -

KBS is one of my favorite stouts. I have a Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa KBS that I am saving for the right evening. Pliny the Elder is truly a grail beer! I have been fortunate to have one (only one) as they are not available in my area.
