Here in Detroit the place to go is Henry the Hatter. Two locations and online sales. Great staff and everyone knows the stock. Paul and Joe are most helpful and the customer gets the royal treatment when they shop or even browse. I have yet to go there when someone has not offered to steam, brush and give the blocking of my hat a finishing touch. Great service. If you are ever in Detroit and you are a "hat person," this is a must see!

The list of top 20 Metro Areas without a good hat shop is down to: Boston, Atlanta, Phoenix, Minneapolis - St Paul, and Tampa – St Pete. Wouldn't you know that the Metro I am closest to is Atlanta. :eusa_booh

Not to get too nit-picky about it, but that hat shop at 310 Union St. in downtown Seattle -- the hat shop that has been there since, oh, 1930-something -- is named for Byrnie Utz, NOT Bernie Utz. (Yeah, I know -- that name is far from common in this time and place, and it is likely misspelled as often as not.)

Perhaps the posts with the misspelling of old Byrnie's name can be edited?

I am only reusing the same post for each update so the corrected spelling will be up soon there and in the excel file. I appreciate your pointing it out as it shows me that people are reading the list and caring enough to get it right.

A lot of the store names I picked up from threads. My old eyes and bright screens sometimes miss things -- I do check all listings against the phone company just missed it.

Rolling several lists of retailers in the Twin Cities area and came across an old style name that could be a possible. Anyone know of this place? They have no web presence so I can't tell what they carry.

Welcome to Hat Stores - A list. I apologize for having to post the list it again, but after a few weeks vBoard does not allow you to edit a post. Today is September 26, 2009. This update adds Hats Plus LTD of Chicago, a mid price hat retailer with a very deep inventory. I am still looking for any information on Capitol City Hatters in St Paul -- the store has no online presence. Can anyone say if the store meets our standards?

The criterion is that you must have felt hats over the $100 price point, a physical address, and maintain store hours or accept appointment. This did exclude one very famous Hollywood store.

I stopped in the shop one hot summer day in 2008. Dave Wolf, the proprietor and hatter, sells Western clothing and factory-made hats (Westerns, mostly) ranging from cheapies to so-so Stetsons and such. He also makes and refurbishes hats. His shop is pretty well equipped, and he seems to know what he's doing. Nice guy, too.

No online presence that I'm aware of, though.
