Hat Obsession

Someone started a thread a while ago about having a hat obsession. I couldn't find it so I started a new one. Lets just say you don't have a hat obsession until you have this many:

Where do you store yours? ;)

Regards to all,

J

P.S. I couldn't quite get them all in.

Where do I store mine? In boxes in closets, mostly, but I'm running out of room. I'd still like a glass-fronted case large enough to hold my lids in a manner that would keep them dust free and out of direct sunlight yet still visible.

Great Scotts!!

Such wonderful news! I only have 23, so does this mean I don't have a problem? (Try telling that to my wife). Where is the picture with them all out on display??

You should take pics of every hat, then print them in index card size to stick on the boxes so you know what's in there. Granted you might not wanna stick anything on the vintage boxes, but hell I'd never rember was in each box.

You don't have to have that many hats to have an obsession. I have only one so so, but I'll need a bigger house by the time I'm through.:)

I am sort of ahead of you on that one. Post-Its do not hurt the boxes--at least in my experience. You can see some Garfield Post Its on some of them and regular Post Its on the others. They had the name, color and manufacturer. That's about all I need really. This morning I chose from the far right side. ;)
There are no moths in the hat room or anywhere else in the house. See the blue box? That is moth balls. :p
One room at a time Art. One room at a time. I didn't want to inundate the people. :p

P.S. It would probably take me all day to photograph every hat I own. :cool2:

All out on display? You're kidding right? Over one hundred hats on display? They would cover every flat space in the house. The room is about as good as I get. I do have an umbrella stand near the door with a few out though. This changes depending on what hat I wear. ;)
I found a few pictures already existing:
1940s Dobbs Gamebird:

1940s Borsalino in a nice red box that I am not sure is original:

1940s Stetson with a star preferation on one side:

1930s Stetson Top hat:

Panama from PB and finished and blocked by Art:

More pictures require a donation to the James Powers Hat Museum. :p ;)

OK, James, now I want to know how many hats Lady Powers has. I know she has some great hats because I have seen her wearing them or displaying them on other sites.

Where does she store them?

Mine, by the way, are either in storage in San Diego, or in my bedroom closet here, or stored in boxes in the basement here. All with moth balls. I have lost count and have given away or sold some that did not look good.

It's nice to live in a place with a basement...

I am digging a basement right now. :p
Actually her hats are mostly in a closet so far. Some are at another house. :cool2: She must have at least thirty that I know of. ;)

LOL it took me a couple of hours because I was waiting for the sun to come out, and moving them up and down the stairs was pretty hazardous :p

My apologies... I saw that hat Monday with a one day auction time. I bid the min right off the bat and was watching it all yesterday... just before the time was up I bumped up my bid... luckily, or you would be adding that royal de luxe to your collection & photos instead of me adding it to mine.
It reminded me too much of a Flagship not to pounce on it...
By the way... I see that flagship box there in the photo... is it occupied?

Attach a photo of that baby here.

Why you! I had a feeling it was you. Hahahahhaha! :p
That was not a bad acquisition. A 7 5/8 long oval in a circa 1947 hat is not easy to find. I should have made you pay more. Actually I have a De Luxe in gray:

Notice the ribbon treatment I "forced" Art to use. ;) Actually ti looke dlike this when I got it:

Big difference huh? :cool2:
Good eye for the Flagship box. Somehow I figured you would see the Flagship box. Yep, It is indeed a Flagship inside but it has seen better days. I have to send it off to Art for a new ribbon and to have the liner sewn back in. I'll see if I can unbury it and take pictures tonight---but you owe me one. ;)

Regards to all,

J

That's one beautiful Vintage Royal De Luxe. I bought a small (6 1/2) brown royal de luxe once for my younger son. I'm always envious of this hat... seems like I can find small ones, but to finally find one in that shape and in my size to boot was to enticing to pass up. And a one day auction... I was hopin' I could snag it before anyone else noticed it. I hope it's a nice as it looked.

Okay, the next one's yours !!

OK so what is the quantity that is a collection compared to wardrobe fashion accessories? IE., I mean to say a collection is more to look at and have than to wear on a regular basis.:cool2:
