So right Bob! To me, firing a hat is akin to an act of war on the felt. Strong language is called for.

from what ive seen rabbit fur goes for about $45 and wool felt anywhere between $16 to 25 depending on the quality!

Just a thought here Julie, but since it's for newborn baby hats, have you considered using flat sheets of blockable felted wool instead of hat bodies? I've never used it, but I would think it could be cut into rounds, boiled, then while still hot, hand molded over almost anything that will give you a crown shape. I'm thinking at least 4 baby hats from a square yard of felt. If you decide to try it, I'd be most curious to see your results.
