Hat Comedy

Hats used to be such a major part of male culture they found their way into comedy routines quite often. My two favorites are the Lemonade Stand scene from 'Duck Soup', and the Laurel and Hardy short, 'Music Box'. The scene in 'Music Box' would take too long to describe, and may have been done before, but it needs to be seen to be appreciated. The Lemonade stand scene is classic Marx Bros., and if you havent seen 'Duck Soup', you need too. Any other favorite hat comedy routines?

In the Three Stooges episode "Disorder in the Court," Curly was called forward to testify, while wearing a derby and carrying an umbrella. After an agonizingly funny minute or so of him trying to figure out how to take off his hat and raise an empty hand for the oath at the same time, he got angry at the clerk. Holding his hat just above his head, he pointed the umbrella at the man and waved it back and forth, wiggling his hand at the same time so that the brim of his hat produced a machine gun noise from tapping his head. It was a hilarious moment.
