Has anyone ever had a bespoke fedora made from Baron hats?

I wanted to get a Beaver fedora made for me in an open crown with 2 9/16 inch brim but I could not find the color I wanted. I finally found the exact color I wanted called "singin the blues gray" from Baron hats. I have heard some positive and negative things regarding fixing hats but not very much on people who have had a custom hat made. If anyone has had a custom made fedora made by them, please tell me what you did and did not like about the hat. So far I think it will be my next hat. I just love the color.

I'm glad you found the color. I have the feeling you've been looking for it for a long, long, long time. :eusa_clap

I have to question the validity of the color you see in the sample picture or square or whatever. Colors online are often not a perfect match for the real thing when it arrives. Just something to keep in mind.

If you send Gary White a sample of the color you want, he can reproduce it for you. His bespoke felt hats are the best I have seen this century.

Swatches are always helpful. Ask other prospective hatters, as well. Most will gladly send them, some will want them back.

To my eye, though, it looks likes a color I have found often. It looks like Art's Granite, or Penman and AB's Seaplane Gray. The Baron link descibes it as "Western Weight." I don't think that will be the kind of felt you want. That will be rather thick, and probably stiff, for a fedora. Especially open crown. You want a dress weight. Baron may carry it, I don't know.

They pinched the Dillinger hat just like they pinched the Indy 4 hat:eusa_doh: .....But what is the deal with felt choices and prices? A western weight rabbit or a overpriced beaver hat. Do they not get a standard weight rabbit body?

They said they carry a dress weight rabbit fur. They said this is a cool grey not a warm grey like the granite. I will ask for a swatch.

Garry White is always my first choice. Right now he has been taking care of some personal matters, so he has not been able to get the color I want dyed in a hat.

lol Well, that's a classic, and very common crease for a fedora. Ever watch much TCM? How else would you crease a fedora? The crease on the Dillinger(Depp) hat is the most common. So, no wonder they used it!

BUT, the only pic I have seen of him shows him wearing a hat with side creases instead of front creases. Hope this shows up here....

I guess they took artistic license with the hat worn by Depp. ;)

I bet if you watched TCM for a week and noted how fedoras were creased, the type used in Indy 4 would be the most common. Does not surprise me they used that crease. Didn't Harry Truman wear a Open road type of hat with those side creases? I could be wrong though. Seems like he did.

Nicholas,
I was just at Worth&Worth hats, here in NY. Orlando, the owner, just got his new felt hats for the season from Italy. I saw SO many different shades of gray that I immediately thought of you. You should check their website.

Thank you, Did you see the color(medium Slate Grey) I was looking for? It seems like it was one of the most common colors from the 1920's to 1960's. I don't know why such a staple color is so hard to find now.

Yep, Steve. It just seemed alittle shady how they show a picture of the Optimo Depp hat where they are marketing a copy of it. With the careful wording they chose a less than careful reader may assume they made the 'Dillinger' hat for the movie. Or for that matter, may believe that the hat they are selling is the same body and ribbon color as the movie hat. Just struck me as a touch dishonest, I didn't want to make too much out of it but it kinda caught my interest.
Edit:Oh, I think we may be talking about two different hats. I was referring to the Optimo movie hat now bogarted by Baron, not the hat worn by the real life Dillinger.

Metropd, I have a Steel grey from Art and it is about as deep blue as you can get with technically still being a grey.

He had hats in a color that looked like the hat from Baron's that you posted.
