How do the manufacturers cope with this?

Probably more of a concern in the manufacturing of the leather than in the assembly of the jackets. Leather does outgas (you can smell it) and the chemicals it outgasses could potentially be toxic or cause cancer, I suppose. Hanging a few old jackets on the wall long after they were made isn't going to cause a significant problem for anyone.

Go for it! You have a great collection of jackets. I've got leather jackets in most every room of my house. I like to look at them. I've got one room full. When you enter it smells like a shoe store, or how a shoe store use to smell!

Great idea here Carlos! Looking forward to seeing how this all winds up. I have intrest in building a rack system for boots & Jackets, I have quite a few pair of boots that need some space to be out in the open.

Regarding the comments about smell and "out-gassing" of odors from leather jackets. Even if it brings me to the ground sooner, I love the smell and have never found any issues from it. It's certainly lot safer than many other household items, which are continually out-gassing into your atmosphere (Think cleaning products, soaps, etc)

Beyond that, go outside and look at your Forced Air Heating or Cooling intake port - do you see a filter on that? It's probably still a lot cleaner than what rooms full of people used to look like:

perhaps you need soft LED lights illuminates behind the jackets, it makes it looks cooler showing its silhouette better, and also good against mildew and potential insects since they hate lights, you also see dust deposit better when the object is illuminated so you know if its time to clean it.

Cool idea, but that would entail either visible cables, or having to channel the wall to hide them, i am not a fan of having to channel the wall for that, and i don't want visible cables...

something along that idea, you can also use a semi translucent board in white or ivory instead or combined with wood to difuse the lighting, then you can freely run around cable around and under the recessed spacer until it reach you wall socket.

have the panels slightly different depth from the wall so everything looks more 3D
in between you can put in mirror or photo frames, etc.

I wish I had a way to keep my jackets in sight. I just was able to move them from the guest room/office closet to our main closet. Of course at the sacrifice of my dress shirts being moved to the guest room lol.

Step 1 is a succes, after spending 15 years living in London i am now back on the continent with my collection!
A friend and I just did a roundtrip to London to bring all my stuff back in a van, no AC and high 90s temps (36C) was intense but we did it.
It is the first time i am seeing all my jackets on a rail and i have to say it was a bit of a shock, i have 44 jackets, and had no idea i had so many, i think i have a problem! (i actually am expecting 2 more in the post!)
Seeing them like this has made me realize i need to sell a couple, this is ridiculouse.
Even with 12 hanging in my office i still have too many.

Expect a few to hit the classifieds soon...

Now i need to finish the work in the room, plumbing, electricity and painting, and after that hang the copper pipes on the wall...

I was super worried about that. Basically we had a van filled with basses, amps, and leather jackets, these are the three things i really wanted to get out of the UK before Brexit hits. I thought that after Brexit border controls would most likely be more stringent and i didn't want to bring valuables like that throught the border and have to justifie things i had bought 10 years ago.
They stopped us at the border, and X rayed the van, we had 44 leather jackets, 15 basses, 3 guitars, 3 amplifiers and a bunch of weird stuff (ratchet collection...), if i had been a customs employee seeing that i would have thought WTF and stopped us, but they didn't say a thing or ask for any justification.
All i had ready was my laptop, i could have shown them TFL to prove the jackets weren't for commercial activity, i'm just a weirdo who travels with 44 jackets!

I had some bad personal experiences in my country of origin(Romania) when I was a younger. I was bringing my sneakers/shoes at home(15 boxed pairs) with my father. At a gas station someone approaches, shows a customs id and starts questioning what do those boxes contain. They started to ask invoices, documents(who keeps receipts from years ago for every purchase?!). Saying that I was doing undeclared commercial activities. They were looking for bribe as usual. Their eyes were sparkling, thinking about getting brand sneakers for all their families. They quickly deflated when they saw 45-46 (11-12 US) and that the shoes were all same size. My father started to threaten them with calling the police and the tv reporters. They backed out quick. Had it not been for my father I'd have lost my shoes. And who knows what fines/accuses.
I hate these customs ba..rds. They'd sell even their mothers for collecting some tax.

Evil is an understatement. I follow sometimes these reality shows from Irish/UK/Australian customs. I found the degree of questioning, intromission in someone's personal life simply uncalled for/degrading. They start asking personal questions, digging/messing up your luggage acting/speaking disrespectfully just because they afford from that position. Generally (regardless of country) these individuals are nobodies(could not do better in life than customs) that get carried away by their brief moment of "importance". In normal life these individuals are so insignificant that anybody hardly pays attention/talks to them. Hence perhaps their frustration.

Looks very sturdy. Hope the bases hold up better than mine, they slowly started leaning lengthwise but have a different geometry.

I am confused about the Customs details.

If you go to Europe from the UK you don’t need to declare anything yet(Brexit still didn’t happen) so I wonder where did you have to through the process.

Regardless of that. I hope it goes well wherever you went from now on and the weather allows to wear leather jackets at least for 3 seasons a year.

Also, wow! 44 jackets? That’s right up there with @Mysteryo and @tmitchell59 for sure.
