Hair cutting guide?

I asked about a Ginger Rogers hairstyle.

Now I'm wondering about cutting. I'm thinking of going a bit shorter than in those pictures, possibly more along These lines

Is there such a thing as a cutting guide that I can give to my stylist? what would something like that look like before it was set?
