I used Groom & Clean for a few months (after having tried Brylcreem which for me, just had no hold at all). I found it much better, but still a little too weak a hold for my liking.

I swapped over to Dax, but not the pomade - I use Dax Super Neat (in the purple tin). It's water based so washes out really easily, and has a really high hold (and also, as it's water based, isn't as greasy). Dax Super Neat is by far the best hair product I've ever used.

I was watching School Ties from 1992 last night and began to wonder if Fraser is wearing a hair piece or got some plugs prior to the Mummy movies...his hair is really thin on top in that movie.

I have been using Groom & clean the last couple of weeks. It seems to do the job. What are your guy's thought on it?

Easily one of my favorite pomades. Especially for the price. A real good hold, good amount of sheen, yet washes out easier than say Murray's Superior.

It's my usual go-to, even though I have a lot of different kinds of pomades.

I've gotten some negative comments about the smell of Groom & Clean for the short period I wore it. :eusa_doh:

Wow, that's surprising. I've gotten comments about the smell, but always positive ones. Incidentally, what smell it has seems to disappear by the time my hair dries. Is your experience different?

Hmm, never tried Groom & Clean yet. Maybe sometime.

Anyway, this is what I look like with center parted hair. To achieve something similar to "The Mummy" look, I need it a lot longer, so I'll try to grow out the top this summer, while keeping the back and sides relatively shorter.

I wore my hair like that a couple days ago too, as I've said earlier, although yesterday my hair was slicked back. Perhaps trying this hairstyle has played an optical illusion in my mind, but I seem to have a rather high hairline, with a noticeable widow's peak when slicked back.

EDIT-- Here's what my hair looked like by the end of the day. I used no product.

I've used it for a few years, and have received both positive and negative comments regarding what had been called an "odor" and an "aroma" at different times. My wife doesn't care for its scent, but it works all day regardless of the heat or humidity. It also maintains a neat appearance after wearing a hat.

For me its quite simple....Jean-Luc Picard bald, or Terry Bradshaw donut bald. Lately I've been letting the little bit on top grow and using brylcreem to part it to the side and back. No, it doesn't look like a comb-over.

I get the same thing too, especially when i use more than just a little dab to go slick- my wife hates it too. I just ordered some Tabac Hair Cream which I hear really smells good. I also ordered some Yardleys English Lavender Brillantine to try

I ended up getting my hair cut today, and went with a moderate pompadour style.

I did find my dad's comments on it pretty amusing though. He looked at me with a nervous, skeptical smile and told me that I look like the 1950s (not bad, that's what I'm shooting for), and said that I should "go with the flow," and seemed to talk down on wearing my hair particularly period looking. The point was also made that he likes it better when my hair is not greased up and is more natural looking, like I had that morning before getting the hair cut. The thing is, he thinks excessive use of hair products (I think he was thinking of gel) leads to hair loss, is that right? But he did say the hairstyle looked good after all that was said, even though I felt I needed to justify it a bit by talking about how a week ago, a girl literally told me she liked my hair while walking by. ;)

I'm simply did tell him though, that I was essentially sporting the same, or a similar hairstyle for about a year now, and I saw no need to change my style because of that. I'm actually glad I got past the initial self-consciousness, to the point that I had established my haircut preference towards side-parts, slickbacks, or pompadours. Sometimes I will however, wear my hair without product, or much in it, and go with more of a "curtain" look.

Anyway, he's not a bad guy, I just get the feeling that he thinks I'm going a bit overboard with the retro aesthetics, since the past two years, just about. I tend to ignore situations like this when a family member tries to steer me into the direction of being "more modern." Anybody else relate to my story?

You know what, I would recommend that you try wearing your hair pompadour or slicked-back style. You'll find that it's a cool look, and it can be nice during special occasions too. You could go with the side-part if you'd prefer, as well.

When have dads ever liked their sons' hair cut or style? This is an age old problem of generational differences. Your hair looks great. Others who see your hair and like it will start to copy your style, and before long you will have started a trend. :)
