Following my idea, I forgot to mention belt loops that they cuted off. It is again a way to make the biker jacket more casual friendly, less "hardcore" and economise money too. But it is less tasty too.
Sorry for the dual post, it seems we can't edit.

Until I found this thread, I was planning on getting one of these Gustin jackets.

I've been looking for a less aggressively styled double rider for some time now. I specifically wanted to get away from black leather and silver hardware and have had some difficulty finding anything around $500. I stared at this jacket a lot:

https://www.schottnyc.com/products/chips1.htm

But it doesn't exist anymore and was around $1400 when it was available. I'm not a motorcycle guy, I just like the styling, so the advantages of horsehide are lost on me. I just liked less traditioanl, brown double riders.

Gustinreleased pricing and additional photos of the four leathers they're using today:

https://www.weargustin.com/store/4054
https://www.weargustin.com/store/4050
https://www.weargustin.com/store/4052

I don't terribly trust Horween natural for a jacket, I've had shoes in that leather that take to stains very easily and the leather has proven tough to clean. The vintage brown was sort of the direction I was wanting to go, but I was hoping for a more traditional brown leather.

Is there something in this price range I should be looking at instead? The length of jacket, which a lot of you have specifically complained about, doesn't bother me so much. Any thoughts on what I ought to be doing here?

An Aero Bootlegger like mine pictures here:

Granted it's over the $500 mark but keep your eye on the classifieds here, eBay and Aero's sale page. They do appear from time to time.

It's not the length that's the problem, per se, it's the fact that the zips and D-pocket are not in proportion to the rest of the jacket. The bootlegger's the way to go. Save and wait, they come up now and then on the Aero sale page as well.

And the updated photos only exacerbate the small D on that jacket. :p

It'll be interesting to see if they reach the interest level to actually produce it. I'm not familiar with them or how they operate but it appears as if they need to hit a quota to get it off the ground.

It sounds like you might want to check out both the Vanson and LegendaryUSA sites. You can find jackets roughly in your price range but with that indefinable authenticity that seems to be lacking in the Gustin offerings. Or simply, if you're not in a hurry, keep an eye on the classified section here. Good luck.

I was over at Gustin for their moving sale last month, and they pulled out their new "L2" sample and asked me what I thought. First off, I like the people at Gustin. They're a very small outfit, and trying to produce product locally, in limited batches, and of reasonable quality for the price point. And they've always been accommodating to me. So I try to be encouraging. The L2 was comfortable enough, better than a mall jacket, but obviously still a fashion statement...yet, like others have pointed out here, the proportions seemed off, and nothing like the real deal. Trying to be polite, I offered to fetch my old Buco- J24, since I live close by. I suppose I was hoping that they would look at a real Buco, and possibly be inspired to get their L2 closer to a brilliant classic. They declined. But in retrospect, I realize that when it comes to leather jackets, that I'm not really their market. And perhaps my opinion, like a vintage Buco J24, is not really what they're interested in...

I'm genuinely curious as to who they believe is, then? The vintage MC trend is at the decline, and leather jackets in general so... It's going to be only us fans left to buy that jacket.

They've added few more photos of the jacket to their Insta, it's really just a horribly long Buco J-twentysomething without the coin pocket. I mean, they even included the passenger pocket!

Where I live here I cannot believe the number of women both young and middle aged or older wearing black short motorcycle inspired jackets. They seem to be everywhere. Definetly less guys wearing them though.

It was a huge trend in Europe just up until this autumn actually but now, if I am not mistaken, the denim type-whatever jacket is the it piece and has slowly been taking over. I see more and more girls wearing these grossly oversized jean jackets. Kinda like Rihanna in that music video. Though the leather jacket is still prevalent at the moment, that's only because people actually invested in those, only to be forced to dump it now when the fashion industry took a shift toward something else. My cousin bought a lambskin moto inspired jacket last winter for a lot of money and now she's asking me if I could sell it on eBay, 'cause she doesn't want to wear anything that's not the top trend. I tried explaining that's not how it works but she cannot really see it outside the fashion perspective. To her, the jacket is already old, thus 'vintage'.

I doubt that leather biker jackets will go away any time soon. I have been shopping with my other half and you still see ladies' biker jackets in every single boutique. Although, the style may vary. Last year, it was all about shearing, men or women, I am not sure how it is going to look this year though as I am just too busy to 'investigate' any further.

As for the Gustin L2, I just got some promotional emails from them and saw the more detailed pictures of it. I honestly think it is really a waste of such good leather. It is not just half hearted, it is the definite in-betweener! If you look at those fashion orientated cut, let's say for men, a fashion biker D-pocket should look something like the Lewis tight-fit models with very slim shoulders and slender trunk and sleeves. Instead, the L2 just looks like a box to me, there is no waistline, boxy, too long, unproportionate pocket.

Just check this out, although this is not the same league....

Definitely an East-West vibe with those pockets.

All of the stuff you guys have been suggesting has been beautiful! I see the issues with the L2.

Still, though, almost everything that's rather nice has been north of $1,000.00. When I've been shopping around used stuff, almost everything has been black with silver zips, which I understand is the standard look. I can't seem to find much actually around the same price range as I'm hoping to spend that's quite what I'm looking for.

Do the Aero's drop THAT low when they end up on the sale page?
