handymike,
Thanks for the reply. That seemed to be the cause to me as well. I worry that the spin between rinses will also cause the problem, even in a front loading washer.

casechopper,
Thanks for the info. A few of my pairs are probably at the point where just tossing them in the wash won't hurt anything, but I think I'll still let them hang dry.

ProteinNerd,
I have that herringbone workshirt and wear it fairly often. The Gustin stuff seems like okay deals for me, and I wear most of what I buy from them when I'm actually at work. Their shirts fit me well (Med Slim), and sizing seems to be a complaint from a lot of people. It holds up better than department store or Gap or J Crew crap, and the cost isn't really that bad.

I will admit to having too many pairs of jeans, and I probably shouldn't buy any more.

@andy b. I ordered the shirt in the same size, I'd be interested to hear how tall you are and your weight and if you thought it was the right size to order as I still have time to change the size if I need too. I'm 5'11 and about 170 pounds, 41 inch chest.

Unfortunately the majority of clothing stores in Australia are either fast fashion and designed to be thrown away after 1 season or ultra expensive luxury brands, there just aren't a lot of options for decent quality at a reasonable price here.......you guys in the USA would have a heart attack at the prices here. e.g.: a regular pair of levis jeans are $AUD140 (or $US107)...more expensive than a pair of Gustin Jeans.

I've found Gustin offers decent quality for the price, they may not be "exciting" but its a decent deal for the price, its just the damn wait and the guess work with sizing that makes it difficult.

ProteinNerd,

I think that will be tight. I'm 5' 10", 150, 39" chest, and it is a slim fit.

I can never find slim fitting shirts, which is why I like the Gustin fit.

Protein Nerd- If it's any help, I wear the Gustin dress shirts in a size Medium/classic fit, and I find that is plenty slim- but with longer arms that actually fit perfectly. Or if you like your shirts a tad more relaxed, you could go with Large slim. I'm about 165 at 6', 42 chest. I've found the Gustin work shirts tend to be a little slimmer, so I usually order them in a Large slim, rather than the medium classic.

I wear size xxl classic fit in the Gustin workshirts and it fits nice and trim. It is considerably tighter than a Pendleton fitted board shirt in XL which I own. I am 6'1", 205 lbs with a 44" chest.

I've purchased 5 or so pairs of Gustin jeans, 1 pair of chinos, 1 sweatshirt, 2 trucker jackets, a bunch of Ts, a bunch of slim and classic fit long sleeve shirts.......... and the sizing is just all wrong (for me).

My #1 favorite item from Gustin I've purchased is the natural veg tanned leather bracelet, and aside from a few T shirts and a scarf, the only thing from them I still wear.

I really wish they'd improve their fit, but I guess it can't be for everyone.

My two cents: slim shirts are awkwardly narrow in the upper chest and loose around the waist + too short, classic shirts are baggy and short (I'm 5'10", there's no way I'm a "tall fit"), V neck Ts bacon-neck, slim fit jeans are really loose knee down, skinny jeans have such an obnoxiously low rise and are also loose knee down.... the fit on my shirts has been wildly inconsistent for the same style (ex, slim) and size (medium). I'm not just trying to blatantly sh!t on the company, either : it's obvious (from all my continued orders) that I really wanted to give them a chance and did so over and over again, while dealing with product delays and incorrect orders (contrast stitching on a trucker jacket I waited 3 months for, when the funding page said it was tonal, etc)........... poorly executed. All at a RADICAL waste of my time and money.

They are now making everything from socks to shoes to aprons to hats to bottle openers to bags to watch straps.... what's next, made in America toothbrushes at a RADICAL value? They need to focus on their core, denim... and perhaps shirts, or they'll quickly be a thing of the past.

Just stuck my Pima Fire Gustins on the Lounge classifieds if anyone's interested. They're in top nick, hardly worn, they never really made into my denim rota.

Gustin Super Heavies after some amateur sashiko patching. The patches are on the inside.

Has anyone purchased their shoes? Looking at the Horween CXL High Top in natural to replace a quickly fading pair of leather converse.... any reviews?

I've always wondered if any of the runs ever failed to fund. I backed the Waxed Olive updated trucker a short time ago and didn't hear anything. When I check my account page a few days ago, it was listed as failed to fund at about 13%. While a little disappointed, I was somewhat pleasantly surprised that they stuck to their business model and if it didn't fund, it didn't fund.

I checked the general page for the jacket to see if they listed it to run again so I could back it again and it wasn't there. So I searched for the item and listed my interest to be notified when it was put up again just thinking I have another go next time......its not like I don't have enough jackets to get me through until its next run lol.

.....then lo and behold, this morning I get an email notification that the funding reached its goal, my payment had been processed....

Looks like the whole funding target is really just a gimmick to get people to commit.

ProteinNerd,
That was the same conclusion I came to as well after following a couple auctions closely to see what would happen if they fell short on funding.
At the end of the day though, I suppose it's a win-win situation. They get the money, and you get the jacket.

Mystery solved. The trucker jacket has already been shipped 3 days after being notified of it completing funding so I'm assuming it's a return?

Thought I'd add these to the Gustin thread so they can be found if needed.

First the Updated Waxed Trucker in Olive.

I really like this. Definitely fits a touch trimmer through the body than the same size in the Gustin Original Trucker. I'd easily recommend the updated version vs the original.

Either way, these are really nice unlined jackets. Great build quality, I wouldn't hesitate if you were interested.

This is the medium.
5'11 about 165lbs, 41inch chest, 31 inch waist. I think it's a good fit.

Up next is the American Herringbone Workshirt.

Size medium, classic fit. I probably should have gone for the slim fit but it's a casual shirt so....

Firstly, the material is really nice. Very thick for a shirt, it is almost a light jacket. I will be really surprised if this doesn't last 15-20 years. The build quality is great in my opinion, the only issue for me is it's really, really long, body and sleeve. I don't think it will shrink in the wash, most of Gustin's stuff is pre shrunk.

I think they are designed for someone 6'4. Is Josh Gustin really tall?

Anyway great shirt, would recommend if you can live with the length.
