Sounds like a golden invitation Bob. If you don't like the Guerra chances are there will be something there you like. I walked out of Delmonico's with 2 hats when I went and my wife bought one too!

Guerra is a serious italian hats maker. I have some long haired hats in my collection and they are really well made and worth the price you pay. Guerra GU is a modern hat with many chances to became a little classic.

Yes Guerra quality is good for a modern made factory hat. I am not found of their sweatbands. I am not sure if they are synthetic leather but they tend to be sticky. By the way when I visited the TONAK factory (originally JSH factory) I saw a Guerra hat so there might be a connection.

Love all this info! Whats the difference between Guerra GQ and Guerra GU? I've seen both on the Hats Plus website. Thx.

I am not sure if TONAK has a relationship with Guerra but seeing a Guerra hat at the TONAK factory tends to make me think that is the case. TONAK is one of the last major makers of fur felt bodies and they also make finished hats under the TONAK name (for Czech market) and others such as Selentino in the USA. Their specialty is Velour and other specialty finishes made from Hare fur. They are lower price point hat but their quality is good although the forms do not appeal to most on this forum.

The factory (oldest in the world) was J. Hückel´s Söhne main factory (considered the finest Austrian Velour maker and the largest hat and fur felt producer in Europe) up to the end of WWII. This is my favorite hat company. You can learn more at these links and PM if you have any more questions.

Bob I can't satisfied what you request. I know the Guerra GU but not the other you mention. Mine are older, around thirty years ago and completely different in material and finishing. They are posted in Hats comparisons thread. About Tonak I can give you my recent expereince. I received two new hats this week. They are new from the last Tonak collection. One is mixture of woll and fur felt, really soft and very blueish nice color. It is a gift for a friend. The other is in fur felt finishing in suede. Well made and material is superb for the price I pay, around 40 euros. The shape of the hat is not so appreciate on this forum. The only disappointment is the fabric sweatband (my mistake in order) that make the hat not so stable on the head. I ordered the Tonak hats via mail and the service is really realiable. I reccomend Tonak in order to have an EU hat very well made and in a really interesting material and finishing at a very good price. Salentino is the trade mark for USA and it seems to me they are interesting.

Thank you. I will look into hats by TONAK. I have few Canadian Biltmore's and Akubra's. Some recent but out of production Stetsons. My next will b Guerra and/or Mayser.

I actually started a project with TONAK to make a 30s style open crown Velour hat. One of their designers put together the following samples which can see are very nice (see below). The hat would have had their highest quality Velour finish, taller crown and wider brim. Similar to dimension to my 1930s JHS Zephyr Seal Velour. The retail cost would have been around $120.00.

Beautiful!

That's a great price. So I understand you right that the project is stil ongoing and it will be a taller crown than on the photos?
That would be wonderful.

Unfortunately I didn't go through with it. I would have to order 60 hats minimum (same color and finish) so wasn't willing to take the risk. I guess it's still possible if people would be interested.

It would have been based on this hat in a steal gray with their Special Velour Palentino (100% Hare) finish.

Hm. You could try gathering 60 people before placing the order. Might be worth a try, or not?
I would be in for a greyish/silvery one.
