I bought these about a year and a half ago, after I’d bought the same boot in cxl; the cxl is stretchy; the Stead commander isn’t, I have a Munson last foot, and while these are fairly roomy in the front (think Alden Barrie), they’re not Nicks Thurman roomy, and so I’ve decided to sell these an order some Nicks in the Munson 55 last (which I know works for me) in the same leather. I’ve worn these maybe 20 times. I really like the leather - where cxl is soft and gets dents and dings, this doesn’t, although it will patina (you can see some of it on these, and I’ve seen pix of well worn ones with great patina). This leather is very water resistant - I didn’t walk through creeks, but I did in some wet weather and nothing. Anyway, they’re $389 at GS new - in thinking $250 shipped within the continental US? I thought the same when I first tried the Munson/thuman, but then I bought a pair of 11067 spring toe size 12.5ee in stock on a whim and they also work well. The Nicks are so overbuilt that correct sizing is an absolute imperative. 12e in the Munson is good (not perfect), but 12.5ee in the 67 is narrow at the waist. My left foot is 1/2 size wider and longer; the 12e in these GS is just about perfect for my right foot, but the left is wearable but a little tight in the toe box. Again, the 12e cxl GS work pretty well because I was able to customize/stretck the left, but the Stead leather just doesn’t stretch. Every choice involves compromise.
