@handymike , as mentioned before, a pic of you in a shawl collar Thedi 30 odd months ago kicked me down this rabbit hole.

The Thedi shawl you got did fit you from memory just as well as (ex-) Handymike’s one to him.
Do you still have it?

You actually have what we call a "quality problem", you make most jackets look good as opposed to having to struggle to find a jacket that fits correctly.

Especially in your case, there is no grail, but a lot of grails. Just take your time collecting them one at a time, no need to rush

Edit: And btw, you haven't tried a red jacket yet

I knew this would be the "one and only" jacket for me...
I contacted John at Goodwear, and he agreed to make me the jacket.
It arrived a couple years later, and I still love it today.

Why don't you send pictures of that jacket to Theodoros, Debs (SB) or Johnson Leathers? I'm sure one of them can make a perfect copy of this jacket. All of them do have a great leather selection but I'm not sure if you would rather go for the vintage one which is really expensive or if you're open for a repro maker. Anyway, I like this jacket!

My grail jacket would be a Johnson Leather-made HD Cycle King repro without belt in 4 oz black steerhide. For now I'm very close to buying that HD/Vanson Cycle King.

Sadly i do not. I regret the sale now. It was my first good jacket and i wasnt sure what i wanted from it(am i now). I’ve sort of circled back and keep my eyes open for one. I took a big hit on the sale.

Oh well, you live and learn, I’ve been there, done that, regretted it to and got over it. Eventually.

An idea might be for a 'least-liked' jacket that you still own and don't sell. Mine would be an Aero 1950s HB in Seal Goat. I got it with no outer chest pocket- it's fairly minimal and never shows any wear, just creasing. If it showed wear, it'd be higher in my favour; as it is, it has two gun pockets (no snaps) that allow my phone to fall out if I bend over but do retain my wallet well enough. It's useful for HK winters and springs and people tell me it's a great jacket. Don't know why, but its shininess and perpetual newness relegate it to my least-worn piece unless I'm out and about in humid climes- and even then I much prefer my Aero CR.

With all of my jackets right now, I'm sure I actually have a grail jacket. This is not to say that I won't get another jacket, just that I do not have a grail right now. If I had to choose, I would say a Freewheelers La Brea in brown which they have not made in a while.

If it comes down to just one jacket, it's the Highwayman.

My fixation with certain models comes and goes. I’ve got my stable of leather jackets now and I’m reasonably happy with it.

At the moment looking more into textile jackets. I really want this

Himel Canuck would be the jacket for me also, especially in terms of around-the-year do-it-all. But there would be zero sense getting one, and esp. for that price, as my Aero Premier 1920s Work Coat ticks exactly the same boxes and fits perfectly.

The Work Coat would be my rational choice but my Cordovan Sheene gives me the biggest smile of all the jackets I have worn throughout the years.

It was a job tamping down the possibility of a Whitefeather Canuck-type, but I got to the point where, as I own a Highwayman, a Maxwell, a Stockman (trying to sell), a Cafe Racer and a 1950s Half Belt, that the prospect of owning additional jackets just annoys me (and it annoys me that I occasionally think of buying additional ones). I prefer to enjoy the ones I have: trading them in or selling them just to buy more jackets would just be ... circular.

The Highwayman is my favourite, but I'd not part with the Maxwell and the Cafe Racer. I figure that I could be happy with those three, but I aspire to be content with two. Ain't gonna happen

I've owned 2 Himel Canucks & currently own a Freewheelers Brakeman. They are both nice jackets, but Brakeman blows the Canuck out of the water in terms of stitch quality & overall styling. I'd go with the Brakeman if you are deciding between the 2.
