Good Wear Leather Modoc question

Hey Butte - Do you and John use the old, original, thick, sticky Vaseline Petroleum Jelly... or the newer, more penetrating Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion?

Thanks, Bob

Good ol' Vaseline in the classic little plastic tub:

I've heard that some guys like "I can't believe it's not butter"...not me ;)

Techno, which model are ordering?

Well, I'm a long way off from when I'll get that call from John- just put down the deposit a few months ago. So things can change. But right now I'm thinking of keeping it simple- a basic Ventura with a plain back (no gussets or action, just the pointed yoke) nickel hardware, sateen lining, in black Shinki.

What about those odd sleeve straps? Are they going? I really can't warm to those straps on jackets. Apart from the untidy look I had them once and got my sleeve caught on things constantly. Mind you I get those discrete side adjuster straps caught on things too.

I dunno, Technovox....I'd leave the back alone.

I have the plain back on my Aero Dustbowl and I love it the simplicity. And lately, I've noticed that many of the newer Aero half-belts coming out have the plain back as well. Also, I've seen a couple of vintage Half-Belts, one on ebay right now (1940's Californian) that have the simple back, so I suspect there might be some historical precedence for the look. But ultimately you can't go wrong either way.

Yep. I can understand that. But for me, I like the functionality of the cuff straps. I've found the other option- button cuffs- to be purely decoration. But the cuff straps really do work to warm up or cool down the coat. And I've never caught them on anything...yet.

If it doesn't have the Half--Belt and has a plain back, it really isn't a"Half-Belt" anymore is it!! [huh]

Absolutely. I'm definitely keeping the half-belt part. I was referring to a version without the gussets/pleated shoulders. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.
