Too much work IMHO. Akubra makes Stingy brim trilby/fedoras for a good price.
Yeah but thats $130, 3 month wait plus big shipping....The Cagney looks great in the photo...What is the fur like? Can it be rebashed? Is it soft, stiff, light or heavy? It's $90....Some pics would be great...I've only seen the one on the Bencraft site...I don't believe anyone else carries it...Is the Executive the same quality or better or worse ?
And is the Stefeno Tear Drop a nice hat...what is the fur like...its $65 on sale...Is the fur nice enough to rebash...is it soft fur? Is it light or heavy?...I've never held one...I would like the opinion of someone who has...How can they offer them at this price...I read they were made in Brazil and I've read they are made in Mass. U.S. Where ARE they made?

I agree with you completely that Akubra does make great hats at very good prices....I'm just trying to get an idea about whats happening with these Stefs....
The price seems too good to be true...which means it probably is...lol

Wow...all you new guys looking for that 'Holy Grail" for under $100....Please take it from me...Look at this post....My mind was in over-drive trying to find a way to beat the system....Don't try to beat the system...use the system...
These folks were very kind and tolerant of my naivety....If you really want a top quality fur-felt, then save for it...or if you are on a tight budget due to circumstances, don't dispair....Be creative and look for vintage clothing shops and check E-bay and Etsy....The rewards for your efforts are there....And these good people here will certainly help you with what to look for in order to find a great hat....I can't thank this forum enough...a real treasure trove of info, great pics and a good time aswell....
Enjoy the process of finding that great find....The chase is on....Good Luck..

Sam Craig mentioned the Jaxon wool felt fedoras, but they have one in fur felt for under $100, the Detroit, a fairly classic medium brim style:

They used to have a couple more fur felt models at the same price point, but I don't see them anymore. Several first-time fur-felt hat buyers on the lounge have had good experiences with these in the past. VHS is a reliable vendor, into the bargain.
