Really? Gotta say that I'm not a fan of "fresh fries". Unless they've been frozen, they don't get mushy in the middle. I don't like "potato skin tasting fries". On the other hand:
Order the Double-double as ANIMAL STYLE!
Double cheese/ grilled onions/ double sauce

If you're looking for ambience, try the Standing Room in Redondo: great burgers in the back of a liquor store.

Then in Pasadena there is Pie N' Burger...

FatBurger, Tommy's (Beverly/Rampart), Father's Office....
Don't get me going.

If you do find yourself over near Mister Freedom, try for Margaritas at El Coyote- don't order a double.
And visit the "farmer's Market" at 3rd and Fairfax. There is a great little Mexican place called Loteria Grill.

Pasadena has the highest restaurant to people ratio in the country I think. If you can't find 100 great places here, you're a redneck

He's been around the city for a long time, and he knows where to get the best eats. I'd stick to his ethnic picks and avoid some of the snootier spots .

Sunsets can't be beat at Gladstone's btw.

i live in LA. re stores, here's a start:

The Stronghold in Venice, CA - they have great clothes, carry Stetson hats, and are one of the only US retailers of Lewis Leathers (I bought mine there)
Nick Fouquet in Venice, CA - amazing one of a kind hats
Mister Freedom in LA - this is one of the coolest stores in the US
General Quarters in LA
Self Edge in LA
Schaeffers Garment Hotel in LA - also the home of Gunner Foxx, hatmaker

When I was in college in Texas, I took a course in Speech 101. My Speech Prof asked where I was from, and I said from E Tennessee. She then said I didn't have a southern accent but talked like someone from Oklahoma! Anyhow hope you have a great vacation on the Left Coast and wish you Merry Christmas too.

I will be flying to the Hermosa Beach area for the holiday, having never been to California before. Can any of you folks steer me towards some of "our kind" of stores, so I can lighten my wallet with more very-muchly-needed jackets?
The only thing on my agenda at this point is a BIL will be giving us a tour of the JPL facility.
