Girl next door makeup?

Hi again, sorry to keep bugging everyone, but I can't seem to find the right search paramaters for this question.

I need to design a makeup that's a little more young and innocent than the heavy-black-eyeliner-and-super-red-lipstick look, (which is what I usually do)but I'm having a hard time finding images in color. (I also need to look a bit frail, which is tricky with the red lips).

I can get just about any color imaginable, it's a matter of figuring out the right colors.

A few months ago, I told someone that I use about 26 different beauty products. He said, "I thought you were just naturally beautiful." :)

I just go easy on the makeup. No raccoon eyes, no tarantula eyes, no thick foundation. (If you're under 30, no red lipstick.) I use under-eye cream (for dark circles), foundation slightly lighter than my skin, subtle blush, and near-black pencil eyeliner and mascara on the upper lid and lashes. Sometimes I use an off-white highlight near the tear ducts because my eyes are deep-set. I use red or medium pink lipstick. At night, I might wear brown eyeshadow. That's it. It also helps to have a kind expression; a sour one will age you (think of Vicki Lawrence on Mama's Family).

Check out the makeup guides here. Any type of 50s makeup would work well for this look (more pastel shades, lighter eye makeup). If you must do red lipstick, try getting something that's a bit sheer or wipe off your red lipstick after it's applied and add a light gloss over the red stain that's left on your lips.

My "natural" stage look includes full foundation (in a shade slightly brighter than my skin as I am very pale and the lights wash you out), eyeliner (usually a plum since I look bad in brown, eye contour/highlight (I like to shadow the crease and highlight the lid, gives a nice look onstage), eyebrow pencil, mascara, cream blush and lipstick ( I use the same shade on lips and cheeks for a natural look), powder, and fixative spray. And concealer as needed. That's the "no makeup look." :eusa_doh: From that we make adjustments, such as adding more "visible" makeup for a twentieth-century look, broken nose, etc. For a sickly person I would tone down the blush and fill in the lips with nude lip pencil, and shadow the eyes. (though this can be aging as well.)

I wasn't sure if pastels were used at this time, but that would probably work better than the red. All the pictures I've been seeing in color are the reds. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be wearing "ingenue blue" for my costumes.

a little bit of a deep pink/ rose eyeshadow (if it's complimentary to you) can give a frailer/ sicker look as well. It's a shade I like and sometimes it makes me look ethereal.

Ooh, that sounds lovely! How do you do the rest of your makeup when you do this?

What about very minimal makeup? A light pink/white dash of eye shadow accross the brow bone, this gives a nice wide awake look, mediam/light coverage foundation, two swipes of blusher and a nice pink toned lip gloss.

I use a little bit of liquid bronzer instead of blush, its a very soft look and easy to blend. A lipstick in a deep rose is easier to wear than red and still gives you some definition.

I find mascara with no eyeliner is also a good way to get some "pop" and have it look more wide-eyed than made-up. I use brown-black instead of black, too, which helps.

And I don't use foundation, except as spot-applied concealer. And moisturizer is really nice for natural glow without cover-color.

I keep the rest in pinks as well - I use Benefit Benetint every day as blusher - that stuff is the BEST! Mascara, light foundation, a rosey/ brown lip :)

The pink contrasts with blue eyes and makes them pop- I imagine it would do that same for brown and green eyes.

Hi RoseLily

Sephora makes a line of makeup for teens that's very natural, but it's a little pricey. My daughter buys it and she's far from a teenager.... She loves it.

Keep your makeup fairly light, the girl next door look doesn't need much.

Try brown for the eyes, and rose or peach for cheeks. Rose (or raspberry) works for the lips too. Light reds are also appropriate.

If you want to see photos in color try doing a google photo search for photoplay. You can see all kinds of 20s-40's girls next door in color, plus a few vamps for comparison.

For a more subdue look... I like to wear an orange red lipstick, but I also like the pink red color Scarlett Johansson wears in Bob Dylan's video: When the Deal Goes Down.

I've had some good results playing this morning- I used the same cream blush on my cheeks, lips and eyes (ben nye Raspberry). Very pretty- I love'd how it made me look a bit frail without having to add undereye circles! The lips weren't quite defined enough for the period so I colored them in with a berry lip liner (ben nye plum). I had to add a bit of eyeliner for definition- Merle norman in burgundy. (I prefer it with out the liner, but under the lights I think I'm going to need it.) Highlighted a bit with pure white (anything else doesn't show up on my skin) the eye socket and cheekbones, and filled in my brows. I'll add false eyelashes if I must, but I'm hoping to just layer the mascara enough to avoid it.

What I need to find now is a burgundy liquid liner...the pencil isn't quite period enough. I generally use navy but it's a bit too much against all the lovely pink...

For lips, there's a really great product at the Body Shop that I wear almost everyday (I can't do dramatic red lipstick and liner everyday) -- it's their lip stain, which is made with roses. They changed the bottle, but I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff...I'm about to pick up another tube, since I'm almost out! I swear by the stuff. You can do one or two layers for a sheer, rosy look, or several layers for a darker pinkish-red. Oh, and did I mention it's also a cheek stain? :)

The Body Shop has a pretty good record as a company, too. They signed the Safe Cosmetics contract, and I believe they are in the process of phasing out all parabens from their products, if they haven't already.

Go for sheerness in texture.

I'm so torn!

I'm trying to find the right balance between the youth and frailty of the character (pink eyelids were a great suggestion) and the period correct makeup. I'm also fighting desperately the urge to just flat out copy Jitterbugdoll and Johanna's looks (of which I am in awe.)

Sheerness unfortunately is difficult onstage- the lights tend to make it go away. :(

I'm kind of obsessed with this LV ad- it seems to have a vintage feel to the makeup, if you can ignore the shimmer;)

Any thoughts on the lipstick color? Not sure if corals were worn at this time.
