She is very beautiful i agree. It's just all that soft porn licking of the spatula thing, that she does on every show, that i find a bit much. It's been going on tooo long.

I love her accent and the way she pronounces certain words. And any woman who enjoys cooking & food as much as she does, is okay by me! ;)

I like the fact that she revels in her food whilst being old-school voluptuous - what some people would call overweight these days :eusa_doh: - and shows no signs of buying into the "size 0" garbage. Go girl! I'm sure they keep going on with the soft porn-thing 'cause it's a formula, and it works.

I have to agree with you Miss S - Nigella is indeed beautiful and her skin is fabulous - like milk and honey - but the finger/spatula licking is a bit much. There was one episode of her show where she made this pea soup that she could carry with her in case she got hungry and suddenly there she was drinking it on a bench with gusto like a famine was on the horizon - it seems she can't go for five minutes without eating something (or sneaking to the fridge in her red satin dressing gown of a late evening to raid the fridge) - most bizarre....

She certainly does like using her feminine wiles to sell her shows! I probably would if I looked like her though. It always makes me laugh that there's always a clip at the end of her programmes that shows her sneaking down to the fridge in her dressing gown to snaffle up some left overs!

Speaking of her voluptuousness (?), she's recently lost quite a bit of weight. Down from a UK size 18 to a 14. Still by no means the magazine standard of skinny but just goes to show that even Nigella isn't immune to the pressures of having to be thin. Saying that if she really did eat as much as her programmes make out, she was in line for a coronary!

I love Nigella, although I do agree about the "food porn" thing. She practically invented it! (Giada also does the food porn thing, drives me batty.) I like Nigella's cooking, and I think she comes off as very "real" on her shows. I also think she's quite attractive, and I appreciate all that she's been through in her life.

My husband also loves Nigella. His opinion, however, is entirely based on her appearance.

This is probably a unpopular one, but I'll make my stand - Joan Crawford.
She may have had faults (please no wire hanger jokes, unless you can expain at least half the discrepancies in that book), but she had real talent, and an incredible drive, a steely determination, which I cannot help but admire.
Also, her charity work is somehing less known, but rather impressive.
And, of course, I do think she is amazingly beautiful with that bone structure and her strong personality just shining through. Just gorgeous.

And from the modern age - I'd say I have a girl-crush on Fleur de Guerre. Her blog is something every girl, unsure about vintage lifestyle, should read. She is just SO normal and so very vintage at the same time, it makes you believe - you can do it, too. It's not just for kept housewives (which is a knee-jerk reaction I've got from a lot of people, who really cannot comprehend, how "all the effort" of being a vintage enthuasist - neutral enough term, eh? - can be incorporated into normal life), it's for "regular" people, too! And she's funny and honest and overall a great person.

Not unpopular! At least, she's one of my absolute favorites too! I adore her earlier image as the tenacious girl who clawed her way to the top, plus I happen to think she was one of the most stunning women working in Hollywood. It seems as though she's best remembered as a camp icon today, but there's a lot of elegance and grit there too that I admire.

(It's also extremely encouraging to see her pictures as Lucille LeSueur... she was a real ugly duckling who became a swan ;) )

I too love Joan. She certainly was stunning. I find her acting mesmerizing. She had the most expressive eyes. I've loved her in all the movies I've watched her in. But I've got to say "The damned don't cry and "A woman's face" are my favorites.

I admire and am amazed by Patti Smith and I am sure I always will be.

I LOVE Patti Smith! I saw her perform once, and even though I have seen many, many live shows, that show still sticks in my mind as one of the best, EVER. She got down off the stage and shook hands with a whole bunch of audience members (me included!). And I helped boost her back up onto the stage to continue the set. She is tiny, tiny, tiny. I mean I'm not tall, but I towered over her, and even though she must have weighed about 95lbs she had a great strong handshake and made you really feel like she was pleased to meet you.

I am also simply crazy in love with Coeur de Pirate(aka: Béatrice Martin). She is so talented and beautiful.

Ummmmm I wasn't saying you did anything wrong.

I was trying to clarify if there was a difference in terminology between "same sex" non-sexual crushes when applied to males and females.

As in, between two women it is a 'girlcrush", whereas between two men it is a "mancrush", rather than a "guycrush". From my watching of television, which is where I get most of my pop culture knowledge, the term "mancrush" is more common.

Min you, I am on the other side of the world (Australia) from Canada so maybe it's a difference in terminology. No biggie
