Alois Pichler Wien, measures 58 cm, 143 grams possibly early 1930s. I think it's Fur Felt but might have a small Wool content. I couldn't find a paper label and nothing points to a specific hat company. I am not aware of A.P.W. having a production facility so probably sourced. There is a wide fabric Band behind the main Band that I assume was a later add on that is permanently applied. I am not sure what it is for so I am checking with the seller to see if they have any information. The black Liner with gold A.P.W. mark really stands out.

Alois Pichler Wien waxed Paper Bag "Pichler Hüte Sind Weltbekannt / Pichler Hats Are World Famous" that this Stiff Felt was wrapped so probably original.

Very nice, Steve! I love the liner. The original paper bag is also a bonus. I've seen these wide fabric bands before on stiff felts, but always as a temporary/travel protection over the ribbon band, never behind and stitched. Interesting

Panos, Thank you! The wide Fabric Band is similar to what you see on Silk Top Hats. Sometimes wide Bands were used for funerals but they were removeable.

Very nice hats in this thread! This was my Dad's Tyrolean, now mine. We lived in Deutschland 61-63 (Fulda & Bad Hersfeld) - loved it and visited/worked there many times since - my Dad got this in Garmisch...It works well in the annual New Braunfels TX Wurstfest...(-*

As I scrolled through this whole thread the last couple of days and weeks (a great and detailed thread!), I finally found the company mentioned, that produced my bowler. I think it was a page in the DHZ with the title: "MARKEN DIE SIE KENNEN MÜSSEN". One of them was "Bora" = Bös & Radziminski G.m.b.H. Hutgroßhandlung, Berlin S14, Wallstraße 66. I assume they didn't produce them, but rather glued a label onto it, right?

I'm not sure anymore, which year the journal was, but i I think around 1930. And I guess this Bowler (with a relatively flat brim) is about the same date? Maybe 20s?

I'll leave that one for our specialist. A lovely bowler though.

This is the mark. It was from DHZ February 9, 1929. Your Stiff Felt is possibly from that time period.

Bös & Radziminski were a Wholesaler / Distributor so most likely your Wool Stiff Felt was sourced. They were out of Berlin so could have been made by Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik or some other hat factory in the region. I tend to think it was made by BGH but I will do some more checking.

Love that Eagle.....Very American looking........usuially when seen on foreign goods, they were made for the export American market. I do not think that is the case here however.....unless they were wanting to entice the tourist crowd.....

NICE get!!!!!

Yes, it's really a nice Eagle. But to be honest, I thought of the Mayser-Eagle of the era. And maybe that was the reference for this 2nd (or 3rd) class brand.

Btw: Isn't the US-Eagle mostly illustrated with wings up? Or am I wrong? I would say this is really more a German (or European) eagle, e.g. on the 3 Marks coin of the Weimar era or exactly the same, but mirrored: the Prussian Eagle from 1919 to 1933 https://www.wikiwand.com/de/Preußen#Media/Datei:Flag_of_Prussia_(1918–1933).svg

No......look again. VERY American, especially with the laurel.....never have seen a European Eagle with a laurel. For our eagle you are thinking of the MODERN coat of arms......Here are some images of our vintage ones.

Variations of these are ofen found on import goods especially Stafordshire and other countries china for export.

The laurel is an interesting point. But, the Rote Adlerorden (Prussian) also shows the laurel in its claws: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roter_Adlerorden#/media/Datei:RoterAdlerOrden.jpg

On the other hand, the wings of the US-Eagle always point to the side or upwards here, if downwards only at the height of the head. So the mass of the wings is lifted. The Prussian and the Bora-Eagle point down, far below the head, the wing masses are at the bottom.

Alois Pichler Wien "Flexa", 55 cm, possibly late 1930s or a bit later. This could be a Fur - Wool mix. The Felt is very pliable and easily dry creases. Great overall look.

Great overall look indeed, Steve.

Shame about the loss of liner, but still a wonderful looking Alois Pichler.
